Nehhhhhhhhhhh, I’m building us a practice facility. Nehhhh

From the AP:

A person with direct knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press the Philadelphia 76ers are planning to build a practice facility in New Jersey.

The person spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been officially announced. The Sixers will combine their business and basketball operations in the facility in Camden, New Jersey.

The person said the Sixers filed for tax credits on Friday to start the process. The team hopes to break ground in October and plans to move in some time in 2016.

I still remember that year or two the Sixers practiced at the Healthplex in Springfield. My family were members and you could literally rub elbows with the likes of Larry Brown, Jerry Stackhouse and… Scott Williams, who once remarked to me on the steps leading down to the locker room that my Dad had me all over the boards. It turns out Williams was watching us play as he rode the stationary bike on the balcony overlooking the court. That was my greatest athlete encounter a child, sadly.

The whole locker room scene was real weird there, too. The Sixers had their own room attached to the main room, where old men walked around with their swinging dicks completely oblivious to (or, frighteningly, well aware of) 13-year-old me, who kept wondering to himself, WHY DOES IT GET SO WRINKLY?! Unrelated to old man dicks*: I once tied my shoes next to REX WALTERS, who was my second favorite player at the time. And I recall seeing my favorite, Allen Iverson, just walking by me with some ice on his ankle. Can’t imagine why the Sixers hated it there.

Anyway, they’ll soon have their own facility to keep them safe from prying public eyes, setting aside the fact that they’ll have to DRIVE THROUGH CAMDEN to get there.

This post is all over the fucking place. Shut it down.

*No Sixers are included in that memory, and I’m honestly not sure if I’m happy or sad about that.
