I will take all of your bad contracts

If you’ve paid any attention to the NBA over the holiday weekend, you’d know that all of free agency is at a stand-still as teams wait to hear what Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James decide. Melo was offered a huge contract by the Lakers but may still return to the Knicks, James is reportedly leaning towards going back to Cleveland (and Dan Gilbert’s infamous letter was finally taken off the Cavs’ website), Chris Bosh could land in Houston, and Dwyane Wade may have lost out on a lot of money. No one really knows what is happening in any of this. However, lucky for all of the teams who may land those big stars, the Sixers are ready and waiting to reportedly take on their contract castaways for a draft pick or two.

We already knew last week that the Sixers we linked to Jeremy Lin if the Rockets landed Melo, but now it looks like they may be on the receiving end of some Linsanity even if the Rockets land Bosh instead. If Melo goes back to the Knicks, they could reportedly dump Amare Stoudmire or Iman Shumpert or both on the Sixers to free up Melo money (though the Knicks have nothing to offer by way of draft picks). And if LeBron takes his talents back home to Ohio, a two-or-three team deal could reportedly bring Jarrett Jack or Marcus Thornton to Philadelphia (though the Sixers seemingly disappeared from those rumors shortly after appearing in them).

None of these will probably happen — maybe Lin — but it shows that Hinkie at least has some plan and is committed to putting a different product on the court this year. If other teams ask him to.
