You know what, maybe Jayson Werth was just trying to see if he could match his contract total in millions (the infamous 127) in miles per hour: According to the Washington Post, the former Phillie and current National was charged with a misdemeanor for going 105mph in a 55mph zone on July 4th weekend. The Nationals released a statement that read:

The Washington Nationals have been in communication with right fielder Jayson Werth regarding this situation for multiple weeks. Jayson is cooperating with the authorities. As it is an ongoing legal matter, the team has no further comment.

But you know what? I feel for Werth. It’s gotta be hard to be an aging outfielder in a league full of young up-and-comers who you aren’t even faster than in a car (just another 5mph and he would have bested Puig). I fully expect — if personal speed and age play in — Marlon Byrd to be arrested going 320mph in a 35 zone. But maybe for Werth it’s all motor vehicle karma for ruining the Phanatic forever.
