Howard Eskin, in response to Ed Rendell saying it’s “ridiculous” to think that Roger Goodell hadn’t seen the Ray Rice elevator video, suggested that maybe it was also ridiculous that Ed Rendell didn’t know about all that Sandusky stuff going on when he was Governor. Rendell responded, in part:

“Well, the problem is, no one told the board. First of all, although the governor has a seat on the board, and has four other appointments, I had a representative and I never attended a board meeting, number one. But more importantly than that, the Penn State officials never told the board about this, never told the board about it. First time the board learned about it is when it came out in public. That’s the first time I learned about it.

The state police has no jurisdiction in Penn State. Penn State has their own police force, and remember, even one step further, Penn State isn’t a state institution. They’re what’s called a state-related institution. So, if the board had been informed about this, and one of my four or five appointees had brought the situation to my attention, what I would have done is I would have called [Penn State] president Graham Spanier and said, ‘Look, turn this guy over to the police as fast as you can. Make a public show of it, because you want to make it clear that you’re acting to prevent further instances of child abuse.

Joe Paterno and I would talk three or four times a year. He would call me if he saw something in the papers that I was taking it on the chin, and I would call him about the team on occasion, and I wish Joe Paterno, the first time he heard that stuff, had called me, I would have said, ‘Joe, take it to the prosecutor’s office right now, because pedophiles are recidivists, they’re the ultimate recidivists, and you want to stop this guy before he hurts anybody else.'”

This is how you quit a job.

Every point in the Raiders/Patriots game was scored by a -Kowski:

I love people with names ending in kowski.

Ray Lewis finally put his experience and expertise to use on television– “there are somethings you can cover up”:

Why yes there are, Ray.

Rutgers’ Athletic Director, Julie Hermann, made an inappropriate Sandusky joke in a meeting, but more importantly, it was the lamest joke: “One employee said Hermann told the staff, ‘We have to reach out to our donors, fans, everyone, and we need to touch them. Not in a Jerry Sandusky-type way.'”

Bad week for Rutgers. A student dies after being taken from frat house.

Sad sacks: Alex Henery signed with the Lions, might be able to reach the end zone indoors (but probably not). Michael Leighton, now a Blackhawk:

The Phillies will work out YOSMANY TOMAS, a Cuban sensation who will either go elsewhere and become a star or sign here and get injured.

DeSean Jaccson burglary is still a mystery:

Jackson’s mother, Gayle, had initially told police the thieves burgled an estimated $250,000 in cash, jewelry, two firearms, and other property. That amount was ratcheted down in March to $20,000 in cash, a DVR security system, a handgun, and a Rolex valued at $110,000.

The Eagles suddenly cut Jackson the same day police reduced the estimated value of the stolen items.

Gayle Jackson’s statement and other details were never released publicly but are found in the initial police report by the first-responding officers. Philly.com obtained the report through an open-records request.

Tom Burgoyne, the Phanatic’s “special friend,” wants to help you use Phanatic-type strategies to foster business success and enthusiasm in the workplace, but I don’t know how rubbing all of your bald employees’ heads is going to help anything. On that note: I kind of want to start up a you’re doing social media and other online things wrong consultancy. I’m only half joking. If Burgoyne can charge $550 a pop to teach people how to act like a goofball, I can easily charge a grand to teach companies and certain media outlets how to do online not awfully. Unlike self-proclaimed gurus whose entire existence is telling other people how to do things they themselves never did, I have some experience here. Buy a t-shirt.

So, uh, let’s do something about this. From the NY Times:

On his way out of baseball, the always-reserved Derek Jeter opened up for a New York Magazine profile about many, many things. But there’s one thing he didn’t want to discuss:

Other characters he doesn’t seem to miss at all. Alex Rodriguez was a close friend at the beginning of Jeter’s career. Then he mocked the Yankees shortstop in an interview with Esquire and the relationship went into a deep freeze. In 2004, A-Rod was traded to the Bronx, and the melodrama spiraled until January, when his suspension from Major League Baseball for using performance-enhancing drugs was finalized.

There’s no shortage of theories about Rodriguez’s problems.

Jeter glares. “This is not an Alex story.”
