Ruben Amaro has turned one of the greatest players in Phillies history into… drumroll please:

Zach Eflin, a 6-4, 20-year-old right-handed pitcher who was the Padres’ first round draft pick in 2012. He was or will be sent to LA in the Matt Kemp trade.

Eflin posted a 3.80 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and full 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in high-A ball last year. Overall, not bad numbers, but he’s a long way away from the Majors.

From FOX Sports:

Eflin’s game, who’s 20-year-old frame seems much closer to six-foot-six, 225 lbs. than his listed six-foot-four, 200 lbs., this past summer was about forcing the opposition to hit what they didn’t want to as he finished with a 10-7 record and 3.80 ERA for the Padres’ High-A affiliate Lake Elsinore, in the hitter friendly Cal League.

Despite his size, he is not a strikeout pitcher, relying instead on getting batters out with his two-seam fastball, a pitch which is slightly slower than the traditional four seam fastball but has downward movement on the pitcher’s arm side.

Matt Gelb points out that Eflin was not listed on the Padres’ top 10 prospects list. Other spots say he was ranked 10th.

Tom Windle, a 6-4, 22-year-old left-handed pitcher who was the Dodgers’ second round pick in the 2013 draft (had previously been drafted in the 28th round by the White Sox in 2010).

Windle posted a 4.26 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP and a better than 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in high-A ball last year.

From FanGraphs:

In his first full season in the minor league ranks, the 22-year-old Tom Windle displayed consistency and steadiness in the high-A California League. But without the flash or high upside potential, his projected role may create some Dodgers fans to feel disappointed.

The Dodgers 2013 2nd round draft pick should reach the majors and provide value to his parent organization, but I believe it will be as a reliever rather than a starter … I see Windle profiling somewhere between a seventh inning reliever and lefty specialist.

I don’t know if I would call any of this disappointing (Rollins wasn’t worth much), but I’d hardly call it exciting either. It’s just a reasonable trade. Can’t ask for much more at this point.

UPDATE: Of course:
