The Jonathan Papelbon trade talks are either alive, dead or immortal.

According to Todd Zolecki, that potential Paps-to-the-Brewers deal isn’t dead yet. The Phillies are also reportedly talking to the Blue Jays about a deal for the closer. As Zolecki says, instilling in me a complete and utter lack of confidence, “reports surfaced that a deal with either team is unlikely. But that has not stopped them from continuing to talk about Papelbon.” Deal is unlikely, but hey, let’s talk anyway. That is how you figure stuff out, Ruben. Good for you. You’re finally getting the hang of this.

There is also, according to Jerry Crasnick, a mystery AL team is interested in Paps. SB Nation assumes that team is the Tigers, but I just hope that team is ready and willing to take Jonathan Papelbon. Of course, financials are still an issue and will continue to be and we might as well call all of these trade rumors dead again until at least tomorrow… so I’ll have something to write about for the, what, fourth day in a row?
