Mike Florio, who also feels Chip Kelly is backpedaling from trade rumors, is the first with this conjecture:

This information comes at a time when the Eagles are in full-blown backpedal mode, for a couple of obvious reasons. First, they need to find a way to mend fences with Bradford, who undoubtedly realizes that he was nearly re-traded. Second, the next distraction for Kelly and the Eagles (and the Titans) will be the inevitable speculation — which already has begun in some league circles — that Kelly is destined to eventually become the coach of the Titans.

Perhaps the better speculation unveils itself in the form of a question: When will Marcus Mariota’s rookie contract be up?

And yes, I’m fully aware that this is analogous to pledging to remain friends with an ex upon a seemingly amicable breakup. Sure, now you might make plans for coffee in a few weeks years to “see how things are going,” but soon, you’ll eventually come to hate that person and loathe yourself even more for being so blind to all the obvious issues during your brief flirtation. Fuck youth and all its imperfections, and fuck them for never living up to your outrageous expectations. They’re married now and I pity the soul who has to put up with them. Have fun growing fat and old in Tennessee, you prick!

Strangely, I feel better now. Bradford’s someone you want to bring home to mom, anyway. Mom, this Sam. What do you think of him?
