Goooooooooooooooooooooood morning everybody! This is my favorite work day of the year, every year. All the kids are back in school, you’re back behind your desk trying to scratch off the remaining skin-peels from your sun burnt shoulders, and football is around the corner. What a perfect time to read a sports blog!

You may notice that things look a little different at this particular site. I spent the better part of the end of last week and this weekend working on getting the redesign up and running. CB is cleaner and lighter and will now load (much) faster on mobile, be more stable on desktop, and offer us more flexibility, including the ability to add a featured posts area – instead of sticky posts – to the top of the site when the need arises. There are still a few things that need to be worked on: the font when you enter comments is too small– that will be fixed. And images occasionally get stretched and distorted to fit within posts in certain views– trying to figure out how to fix that. If you see anything else or encounter any issues, please let me know– Twitter, email, whatever.

Let’s hit it!

The roundup:

Howard Eskin, who’s never gotten anything wrong, continues to be a sexist A-hole when it comes to ESPN reporter Dianna Marie Russini, who was accused of blowing the Redskins’ GM for info:

#nicesource is one of the least subtle tags I’ve ever seen. If I were Russini, a simple #GotFlowers would’ve been an appropriate response.

Eagles advertising game is so strong.

Gotta lova hockey players– probably the only breed of athlete that would hang out with the equipment guy at, like, the biggest, more generic local sports bar. Could you imagine Chase Utley and Jayson Werth grabbing beers at McFadden’s with Video Dan circa 2008? No shot.

Kansas State: best band formation ever:

It’s September and the Mets are in contention– time for their patented implosion! Here’s David Wright blowing off innings-limited Matt Harvey, who wrote on Derek Jeter’s The Players’ Tribune that he will pitch in the playoffs. I love the way players are using the site to give unfiltered commentary. The media, not so much:

I think that’s a little Bowen creeping up on Cooney, but, you should still sign up for his memorial golf event.

Meanwhile, Bryce Harper on Nats fans:

“They left in the seventh, that’s pretty brutal,” Harper said. “Playoffs is totally different. Our fans are going crazy.”

The Mets and Nationals don’t deserve the playoffs.

The media, which has been fairly critical of Chip’s my-way philosophy – especially locally – is now commending the man for being able to reverse his own decisions (Barkley, Tebow…).

Literal phrase I said last night while devouring wings at Charlie’s in Somers Point: “Look mom! I’m in People!”

Dominic Brown talks about being potentially the most disappointing Phillies player ever, or, you know, why he doesn’t worry about that:

“I don’t worry about that,” Brown told MLB.com. “No, not at all. I hope I’m here, I’ll tell you that. It’s a family for me here. I know everybody. The guys have been great to me. There have been a couple tough times, but that’s growing pains. They’ve always been honest. I respect everybody. I’m comfortable. Why wouldn’t you want to be here, you know?

“A lot of people ask me if it would be better with a change of scenery. I don’t know, really. But I don’t see why I can’t do good here. I don’t mind coming in and competing for a job again. I do it every year anyway. What’s wrong with that?”

Ever the competitor Dom is, quite literally.

You can go down to the Wells Fargo Center at 3 p.m. today to watch them… make ice:

If you use an off day on the greatest work day of the year to do this, you should have to sit in the penalty box of life.

Cheesesteak Sports Eagles hype song.

Lifelong Phillies fan Doug Glanville wrote about Rollins and Utley in the New York Times:

Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley were just kids when they were my teammates. I watched Jimmy grow to be an M.V.P., an All-Star, a husband, a father. I watched Chase silently destroy his opponents, head down, but head up at the same time. Now I watch them fight the war that time wages on athletes’ bodies, and I know they sense a question mark looming over what was once certain about their talent and their time left.

NBA writer Steve Kyler answered some questions on Twitter over the weekend, and MCW and the Sixers became a topic:

The Sixers signed their 2nd round pick J.P. Tokoto and undrafted free agent Christian Wood.
