Remember a couple of weeks back when we mentioned that Hinklangelo made some calls to the Clippers about Blake Griffin, just in case? As we near the trade deadline, we’re learning that Griffin is both totally untouchable and completely available. (For what it’s worth, the Sixers have a slim-to-none shot at him)

According to a report in the OC Register, there’s a 0% chance Griffin is going anywhere:

“High-level members of the organization say they remain adamant about not dealing Griffin, the best young player the franchise has ever had, despite another round of rumors suggesting they called Denver about Kenneth Faried, Danillo Gallinari, Will Barton and Nikola Jokic.

“One hundred percent not true,” according to one executive involved in any trade discussions. Clippers coach Doc Rivers has also been vocal, saying the team isn’t trading Griffin.”

Boom. So that’s cleared up. “One hundred percent not true” leaves little room for wiggling. Or, does it? According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, one of the guys on this type of thing, Griffin is not at all untouchable:

“Conflicting noise is spouting from Clipperville, but the smart money is on L.A. waiting until the summer to really get busy on the Griffin front. Doc Rivers wants to give this core one last postseason shot, and the Clips need Griffin just in case Kevin Durant picks them, triggering a Griffin-for-Durant sign-and-trade.

But the Griffin noise is real. He’s no longer untouchable. The Clips are listening, even right now, and they’ve rarely listened before. If they get wind over the next four days that they’re out of the Durant sweepstakes, they could accelerate the Griffin trade timetable. It’d take a monster offer to pry him away before the draft, but the ground is trembling.”

Again, the Sixers are likely 29th on the speed dial on this, but (if anything) this is the kind of deal they’re known for helping facilitate by joining in the ménage à trade of draft picks and giant contracts. File this one under highly unlikely but …
