LeSean McCoy was not charged today despite reports that an arrest warrant was imminent. Why? Police and the DA’s office are still investigating.

We heard late in the day from both Central Detectives and the DA’s office. Police requested our original video file – showing a part of the fracas at Recess Sunday morning – as well as our edited and enhanced version. We provided both. They also requested the name and contact information of the source who shot the video and witnessed the fight. We declined to pass that along. The person who provided the video asked to remain anonymous, and we honored their wishes because we’re a fine and upstanding journalistic establishment. A source tells us TMZ also declined to provide the name of their source.

We responded to an email from the DA’s office, but haven’t heard back from them.

According to a source, the decision is in the hands of the DA’s office now, and it’s clear that they are still working through building a case. Charges against McCoy are almost assuredly coming, but the source said they would be shocked if anything happens before Monday. They noted that things seem to be dragging along at a slower than usual pace and that, had it been a normal person as the target of the investigation, they likely would’ve been arrested by now.

One reason may be that Curtis Brinkley (one of McCoy’s associates allegedly involved in the fight), through his lawyer, may have denied being present at the time of the fight, according to the source.

Additionally, one of the off-duty officers involved hired top local defense attorney Fred Perri, most notable for defending rapper Beanie Sigel. Another criminal defense attorney in the city not involved in the case – whom we heard from earlier – thought this was odd, but added that “this likely stops Shady from hiring Perri’s partner, who is Cosby’s lawyer and one of the best lawyers in town.”

Errrryone lawyering up right now. Central Detectives and the DA’s office are still actively seeking video and witnesses. Charges could come tomorrow, or they could come next week. Meanwhile, Sean Brace bumped into McCoy outside of Misconduct Tavern tonight and, impressively, got him to admit he made a mistake and apologize:

Gonna be a long offseason for Shady’s lawyer.

UPDATE: A tipser points out that Perri is often involved in incidents involving police, so there may be nothing to read into that.
