Do you ever have déjà vu, Mrs. Lancaster?

I feel like we’ve seen this before– Sean McDermott stumping for himself to be an NFL head coach. The problem is, NFL owners saw their shadow, which means another year coordinating for Mr. McDermott.

Last night during SUPER BOWL MEDIA NIGHT (which was foolishly on against the Iowa Caucuses), McDermott, who famously(?) went on the 97.5 morning show last month to tell the city of Philadelphia why he’d be just great for the Eagles, continued to talk about the coaching search that showed extraordinary little interest in a man who appears to have been hatched from a bowl of Lucky Charms. He said he did speak to the Eagles, however briefly.

Jeff McLane:

“We did talk,” McDermott said Monday during Super Bowl media night. “We had some preliminary talks. It was clear from the beginning they wanted to go offense.”

McDermott said he spoke to Howie Roseman, the team’s vice president of football operations, the day after the regular season ended.

While the Bucs ultimately promoted offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and the Browns hired Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, McDermott reportedly interviewed well [with them].

“You can go out there and throw your line out there and not get an invite and say, ‘Hey, well,’ or you get the feedback and it’s negative or you didn’t handle this right or that right,” McDermott said. “The feedback I got was very, very positive. And I think it was more a result of the process.

“It’ll come at some point.”

“It runs in cycles,” McDermott said. “Maybe next year some defensive guys will get some love.”

How I interpret that: HIRE ME! HIRE ME! WHY DIDN’T ANYONE HIRE ME?!
