A reader contacted us this morning wondering if we heard Colin Cowherd suggest that Ben Simmons should tank his Sixers workout. To … teach them a lesson, I guess? To say to the Sixers, if they have the top pick, “I would like less money and to not be remembered as a top pick, please?” Whatever.

Cowherd’s argument is as soft as baby poo (ask Kyle). [Editor’s note: It’s basically just spicy mustard right now and not so bad. So far, baby poop, NOT BAD.] He argues that because Eli Manning and John Elway, who are both good, decided to not play for the teams that drafted them, Simmons should do the same. “He’s a Laker fan, potentially,” Cowherd spits nonsensically from his freakishly large mouth.

But here’s the thing: I wouldn’t mind it. Disregarding how idiotic the argument is – “the closest NBA team” to Australia is “the Lakers,” Cowherd says, like geography means anything – it would hurt Simmons the most.

First, that scenario puts the Sixers in the top draft spot. Second, a workout isn’t everything. Teams draft players who don’t work out for them all the time. And third, there’s a growing contingent of people, who are beginning to steal me to their side, who want Brandon Ingram with the top overall pick.

But the final reason why I’d be totally fine with Ben Simmons tanking his workout? Word of that might spread and cause other teams to hesitate. He already had a weaker second-half to his season, and will have no post-season record to go on. That slip could leave Simmons to be snatched up by that Lakers’ pick the Sixers own*.

*None of this will actually happen, because Simmons won’t “tank” his workout, because regardless of what his grades might say, he’s not that big of an idiot.
