And Howie Roseman continues to recreate the Eagles from scratch: Free agent guard Brandon Brooks, last with the Texans, has signed a five-year, $40 million deal with the Eagles.

Brooks is enormous – 6’5″, 346 pounds – and will add size and experience to an oft-depleted offensive line. At the end of last season, Pro Football Focus called Brooks the Texans’ best offensive lineman and also named him the third best offensive guard available in free agency:

“Brooks is another zone-blocker with above-average marks in pass protection for all four years of his career—in fact, his grade has steadily improved there. His run-blocking was a bit below standard in 2015, but he ranked in the top five at the position there in both 2013 and 2014, so teams considering Brooks will likely hope he can return to that form in the run game. Brooks also has age (27) and durability—he was on the field for at least 93 percent of Houston’s offensive snaps over the last three seasons—on his side.”

Fun fact: Brooks was drafted 76th overall in 2012, a pick that originally belonged to the Eagles but was dealt along with another pick for DeMeco Ryans and the pick that would become Nick Foles.
