This is what we have to give up to get the Dolphins to take Byron Maxwell off our hands? Hear me out: Kiko Alonso is dirt cheaper – under $1 million – and has only one year left on his deal. He could be a terrific player. He was decimated by injuries last season. Could he really suck? Yes. Is it possible his early-season injuries last year completely ruined any chance he had at success in an already-porous defense? YES.

Alonso is the lowest risk-highest reward player on the Eagles right now and because Howie got himself some big-boy britches he feels the need to undo EVERYTHING Chip did. Don’t like. Do. Not. Like. They could wind up regretting this big-time.

UPDATE: The Eagles will save money by moving Maxwell, which is a win, but I hate the idea of trading Alonso.

UPDATE 2: Jeff McLane reports the Eagles will get draft pick compensation.

UPDATE 3: Howard Eskin says the deal won’t get done until Wednesday. Kiko is being included so the Dolphins will take Maxwell’s contract. That much is obvious. With a 4-3 defense, and Jordan Hicks healthy, there may not be room for Alonso. But he’s low risk-high reward, and in a rebuilding season, there’s no reason not to keep him around. They couldn’t find another throw-in with Maxwell?
