The ball is tipped
and there you are
you’re running for your life
you’re a shooting star
And all the years
no one knows
just how hard you worked
but now it shows…
(in) One Shining Moment, it’s all on the line
One Shining Moment, there frozen in time

But time is short
and the road is long
in the blinking of an eye
ah that moment’s gone
And when it’s done
win or lose
you always did your best
cuz inside you knew…
(that) One Shining Moment, you reached deep inside
One Shining Moment, you knew you were alive

Feel the beat of your heart
feel the wind in your face
it’s more than a contest
it’s more than a race…

And when it’s done
win or lose
you always did your best
cuz inside you knew…
(that) One Shining Moment, you reached for the sky
One Shining Moment, you knew
One Shining Moment, you were willing to try
One Shining Moment, you knew
One Shining Moment….

Let’s hit it!

Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight actually likes Nova’s chances quite a bit:

Here’s how each local team breaks out individually in their path to glory punctuated by Jim Nantz’s obvious eagerness to get this whole thing over with so he can go to Augusta:

77% chance of advancing to the Sweet 16.

Voila_Capture 2016-03-14_10-04-05_AM

Horrible draw for St. Joe’s. They deserved better.

Voila_Capture 2016-03-14_10-03-50_AM

A 4% chance of advancing to the Sweet 16. Just keep this in mind this week when you hear the local Temple chuckleheads (endearing!) singing their praises all week. They have basically no chance, and Dunphy is the worst tournament coach in the city. Nice guy, lousy tournament coach.

Vegas also likes Nova:

But hey, here’s an idiot from ESPN, making his “bold predictions“:

9. Temple will win the all-Philly matchup against Nova

Philadelphia is rich with college basketball interest. The NCAA tournament selection committee knew a potential second-round matchup between Philly favorites, Villanova and Temple, would warrant interest from the City of Brotherly Love and beyond. Even more intriguing? This city rivalry game will ruin Villanova’s push to reach the second weekend for the first time since 2009. But Temple isn’t worried about that. Coach Fran Dunphy’s team will overcome a sliding Iowa squad before it dismisses the Wildcats in the second round.

Charles Barkley couldn’t use the touchscreen in CBS’ awful selection show.

No Devils hat, but the mugshot lived up to its billing:

The odd love affair between the Clintons and the Busheseseses has always baffled me:

Just a tremendous article from Bloomberg on how the Republican party plans to steal the nomination from Trump:

“We’re already into uncharted territory. Everyone knows we’re pretty likely to have an open convention,” says John E. Sununu, a national co-chair of Kasich’s campaign, which has no mathematically viable path to win the nomination without one. “We’ve got to let it play out. We won’t have a sense of that for at least another month.”

Though the real action will take place on the convention floor in June, the machinations to take the nomination from Trump are already fully in progress. If the primary season thus far can be understood as a triumph for the candidate who defies the norms of politics, the shadow campaign now underway will reflect the primacy of rules, including some that can be wantonly rewritten to serve the interests of those in charge. While there’s not a single Republican establishment with the power to dictate outcomes, there are many interlocking ones dispersed among the states. The key to winning at a contested convention is to get them working in tandem, and the age-old practices of favor-trading and influence-peddling will become the new norms. Here’s what non-Trump forces are doing—and will find themselves soon scheming to do—to pull off one of the biggest, perfectly legal, heists in American memory.

Who would’ve guessed that Chris Christie is a stone-cold liar.

I’m INTRIGUED by this:

Garces has the best meat in the city (Kobe Beef Tacos at Distrio) and Pat’s has the best steaks (indeedydo). Can’t wait to see what they come up with!

Goose Gossage is right. Jose Bautista, and people like him, are ruining baseball:

The Phillies’ spring training roster is starting to look decidedly less exciting right before Jim goes down there.

Shocking: Old, out of shape, and irrelevant men both failed drug tests before punching each other a bunch.

LSU is taking its ball and going home, opting not to play in the NIT Tourney. That means the next time we see Ben Simmons play, it’ll likely be in an NBA (Sixers) uni.

I came here for a story about the Sixers and Warriors maybe sharing a record (biggest difference in first and last place in league history) but instead got one of the worst ledes in history:

To begin with, CBS is being investigated for war crimes after stretching the NCAA Tournament Selection Show to two hours. Fortunately, the bracket was leaked on Twitter before CBS could get to the second half of the bracket, making a joke of the second hour of the bloated show.

This mean that with all due respect to the late Gil Scott-Heron, The Revolution WILL Be Televised. In fact, it’s being televised every day. This is just the most trivial – and most viscerally satisfying – way yet.

Harvey Pollack, the Sixers’ late and long-time statistician, will be honored with a historical marker by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

Jim is not a big fan of flying, so I really love hearing this: A pilot left his gun in an airport bathroom and then a janitor stole it.

Oh, and this one too: “US-Bound Combat Missiles Found on Passenger Flight.”

Pete Rose has thrown his support behind Donald Trump, via autographed baseball. A 74-year-old disgraced baseball player with a gambling problem? It’s Trump’s least surprising endorsement yet.

Nice email of the week:

Hello Kyle or Jim or whomever this may concern,

I just wanted to thank you guys for putting your time and hard work into Crossing Broad.

I’m a thirty-something that was born/raised in DELCO* and I have lived all over the country for quite some time. CB has kept me connected me to my roots throughout my travels. I currently live in the Delaware beach resort area, along with many other displaced Philly area degenerates. On behalf of myself (and all of the degenerates, because they religiously read CB everyday and I know they will never reach out to say thanks) THANK YOU! We all feel that CB is THE only place to get Philly related sports happenings.

As I’m sure you’re aware, you have something very special going on with CB. It was way ahead of it’s time and you are constantly evolving. Again, thank you for your contribution the real Philadelphia sports landscape.

*I’m proud of how and where I grew up. I think?

Cheers,
[Reader Mike]
