In their own deluded and delusional minds, St. Louis Cardinals fans are the white knights of the sporting world. They’re the best fans of the best sport in the best city. They are loyal. They are honorable. They are beautiful. And sometimes, just sometimes, they’re complete and utter pieces of shit.

Of course, that sometimes is more often than not, but let’s not get caught up in semantics here. They’re the only fan base I know of with a twitter account – 31,000 followers strong – solely made to point out when they’re being absolutely terrible. Some days that’s easier than others.

In his first game back in St. Louis since leaving for the Cubs in the offseason, Jason Heyward was ALLEGEDLY met with a chorus of boos and racial slurs.

For Heyward’s second at-bat, ESPN switched over to watch Bryce Harper bat in a less-tight game, possibly fearing their mics would pick up the n-word again. This doesn’t forgive the Flyers fans’ behavior last night with two wrongs not making a right and all, but it’s good to know bracelets being thrown on the ice can always be trumped by flat-out racism in St. Louis.

[Editor’s note: For what it’s worth, I watched MLB.tv’s park audio and you can not hear anything of the sort during Heyward’s first at-bat. Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen at another time. And if this were about Philly fans, everyone would run with it anyway. So we’re going to do that. Cardinals fans are racist.]
