A fan, lined up right in front of me, taking part in the Shoot for Your Season promotion at last night’s Sixers game (where season ticket holders can make a half-court shot to have their tickets paid for next year) was told to remove his shirt. He was wearing the custom-made Sam Hinkie jersey he’s had for years. While waiting for a TV timeout to take place, he was told he had to remove his jersey*.

After my tweet about the situation blew up, the dude in the picture reached out to me. He summed up his emotions like so:

According to Spike Eskin, a couple of other people taking part in the contest were also informed that they had to remove their Hinkie-supporting gear.

This is a horrible look for the owners. First, they let Jerry Colangelo run his leaky mouth to the press. But once Sam Hinkie steps down, it’s silence. The ownership released a half-assed press release but didn’t talk to media at PCOM when they were spotted. They’ve planned a press conference for tomorrow to announce Bryan Colangelo as the new GM, but in between basically giving Hinkie no other choice but to resign and bringing in his replacement, they’re trying to silently erase evidence that he was ever here.

*This happened directly in front of myself and Max Rappaport, two of the worst possible people for the Sixers to see this.
