Let me see if I can fit this all in one run-on sentence: Flyers fans pelted the ice with light-up bracelets on the night the team honored their late owner, Ed Snider, whose beloved squad, honoring his memory by wearing his initials on their sleeves and prominently featuring them on the ice itself, got demolished, 6-1, by a much better team, the Capitals, whose coach thinks the Flyers gave up toward the end of the game, right around the time when the PA announcer, Lou Nolan, warned fans about throwing the bracelets and then chastised them for incurring a penalty for the Flyers as a result of their boorish action that will get national play for years, and which resulted in a bracelet hitting an opposing player in the face while he was on the bench being treated for what appeared to be a concussion, this as two captains pleaded with fans to stop throwing their fucking trinkets, which, again, were given out on the night the team honored Mr. Snider.

Welcome to the club, Philly Fans Threw Wristbands on the Night They Honored Ed Snider. Ask Snowballs at Santa about his eggnog and Batteries at Drew if you need a phone charger.

Here’s videos and pictures from another blowout to the Caps that devolved into a complete embarassment for the organization.

Why throw bracelets?

Lou Nolan

Just an all-around solid night for Lou, who was undoubtedly emotional with the Ed Snider tribute and who just came unhinged at the end of the game. He’s a voice of authority in that building. His exasperation at the idiots throwing wristbands was welcome, or:

I’m sure Lou does fine, but pretty sure PA announcers aren’t “rich.” Daddy Warbucks isn’t in the scorers’ area sitting atop piles of cash, putting up with fans’ BS just to ring the register and buy another mansion. But I’ll keep an eye out for him slathering truffles on his dry-ass Aramark pretzel next time.

Ryan White, useless mongrel

Is that one of the crazier things that you’ve seen, the whole wristband thing?

Oh, you know I didn’t see that, I was already kicked out; I didn’t even know it happened. I just got told that’s what was going on. I didn’t realize they got warned or whatever. But I mean, whatever. I love the Philly fans. I’d be doing it too.

Caps coach Barry Trotz

What was your reaction to the fighting and the fans throwing the wristbands on the ice?

“Obviously we pulled the game away and they weren’t interested in playing anymore and so we ended up on the power play for the last 7 or 8 minutes.   I just thought it wasn’t good for the game, plain and simple. We’re on national television I don’t think it displays our game very well.”

As bad as you’ve seen it or you’ve seen it worse than that?

“Probably, seen it worse.  I’ve been around for 35 years or something like that. I just thought the game got out of hand and we just did what we did, we stayed to our game plan and script and we took their best punch.”

What did you think of the reaction by the fans throwing things on the ice?

“Well, you never want to see that. It is what is it I really don’t have any comment on that, anything good anyways.”

This guy is right

Never mind the sanctimonious BS here– the Flyers were lucky to be in the playoffs. Did I think they could carry that momentum to a first round win? Yes. Did they fail spectacularly in that effort? Yes. It’s fine. They’re headed in the right direction, but they are getting their asses handed to them by the best team in hockey. This will be like the first Villanova-Oklahoma game for the Flyers organization. Now that they’ve seen the best and what it takes, they have something to strive for. When they play them again in the playoffs in a year or two, they’ll crush them. For fans to be upset about this game or series is ridiculous. I checked my Draft Kings fantasy baseball team and watched the last 20 minutes of The Big Short (had to or else my rental was going to expire) during the final 10 minutes of the game last night. Why? It’s over. We got FREE hockey for a few games. Turn the page. The team is headed in the right direction. Dave Hakstol knows what he’s doing. And there’s a future superstar on the team.

Brooks Orpik

He had a good run.
