Since it opened in 2003, the Linc has hosted numerous soccer matches, including international friendlys and tournament finals. In two weeks, the Linc will host three first-round matchups of the Copa America Centenario. Additionally, early next year, Philadelphia may be the first non-Scottish city to host a Scottish Professional Football League match.

According to the Evening Times, “discussions are underway with a view to staging the SPFL Premiership fixture – a Dundee “home” game – at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.” Dundee’s opponent is still up in the air, but the SPFL is reportedly leaning towards Celtic, who played against Real Madrid at the Linc in 2012 and lost. The Linc is described as the “frontrunner to host what would be the first ever Scottish league match to be played overseas.”

The details are still being finalized, but Dundee told season ticket holders, in their renewal letters, that they are “in negotiations to play one of our home matches of the 2016/17 campaign in the USA.”

Early 2017, you say? Scottish soccer? Celtic? Let’s shoot for around March 17th, since the party people will just hear “Celtic” and get hyped either way.
