There is no more obvious signifier of the end of the Hinkie era than clues about what the team is going to do in the draft. When Sammy was here, not a single peep came out of the Sixers’ front office, but with Bryan Colangelo in charge, we’re getting glimpses behind the curtain, and they look… good?

According to an interview Colangelo gave on SiriusXM, the Sixers have talked to Ingram, plan on talking to Simmons, and have good relationships with both camps. That’s nothing new, but this is:

“The bottom line is, we’re going to pick the player that we think is the best fit for our team, and the best piece for us to build around and with, and I’m pretty certain that those players, including some others that are largely considered in the top five, all see this as a pretty good situation to start their NBA career.”

Picking for fit vs. best player available in the number one overall spot can be dangerous, but it shows that Bryan has a set idea for what kind of team he wants to build. Plus, he picked Andrea Bargnani as BPA, so this might be good. After that tip pick there’s still a lot of team to build, and reportedly the team is high on Nerlens Noel.

Yesterday, David Aldridge reported that the Sixers have “strong support within the organization for Nerlens Noel, who provides defense and rebounding that none of Philly’s other bigs provide.” Additionally, Bryan reportedly wants “another high first-round pick,” and Aldridge concedes that trading Okafor is likely the easiest way to accomplish that.

So is Okafor to Boston a possibility? Would the Sixers pick Simmons, keep Nerlens, and go for a shooter at three? I’m not sure. Under Hinkie we had a ton of broad questions. Under Bryan, we have specific ones.
