Sources tell ESPN’s Todd Archer and spiritual adivsor to the players Adam Schefter that Tony Romo is hanging ’em up and joining every other Cowboy ever in the broadcast booth.

On one hand I feel bad for Romo, who seems like a good dude who was always maybe just a bit miscast at Cowboys quarterback. On the other hand… he handled his demotion last year in the most self-important way since Jim Nantz decided college kids would want his ties (we still don’t know who he gave it to last night). His press conference to… announce that he would go along with the decision was bananaland. And sort of like how when one old person dies their spouse goes shortly after, that’s Romo when he lost his starting job. Once Dak became the guy, it was only a matter of time before Romo would tap out due to sheer sadness. What am I without this star on my helmet?

There a lot of jokes about Romo getting hurt in the broadcast booth in the replies to ESPN’s Tweet, but I’ll zag and declare this one the best:

Vicious. And true.
