THE SIXERS-CELTICS RIVALRY IS GOING GLOBAL!

There were two reports last night that the Sixers and Celtics will play a regular season game in London next year (Sixers home game…).

The Boston Herald reported that the two teams will play on January 11 at the O2 Arena. Keith Pompey seemingly confirmed the report, but said that the league hasn’t confirmed it.

This is such a Joshua Harris move it’s not even funny. He owns the EPL club Crystal Palace (also in London), so obviously there’s some synergies there. Giving up a home game sucks, but I actually don’t hate this at all. The NBA continues to grow its global presence and it says A LOT about the Sixers’ marketability – both the team and their players – that they will get featured in London against the Celtics. Granted, true contenders like the Warriors and Cavs may not want to incur the travel toll and give up a home game for such an event, but still, the fact that the Sixers will be a part of this is cool.

The NBA has held games in London before. They’ve played six regular season games there, and the Celtics themselves played a preseason game at the O2 Arena in 2007.

Anyway, the Circle of Trust is heading to London.
