It has been 71 days since the Eagles last lost a football game. During that time, they have ripped off nine straight wins and have transformed from a pleasant upstart to an unstoppable force, methodically steamrolling opponents on their way to becoming the NFC’s best team.

The Eagles have outscored opponents by an NFL-best 160 points this season. They are first in points scored, third in points allowed, and have demolished opponents by an astounding 26.8 points per game dating back to the San Francisco win. It doesn’t matter what team is on the schedule, it’s hard to pummel opponents week in and week out—just ask a Steelers team that needed a last-second 53-yard field goal last night to knock off the depleted Packers as a 13.5-point home favorite. Save your strength of schedule bullshit and “a lot can happen between now and then” qualifiers—the Eagles are, and have long been, the best team in football. Hot-take artists aside, analysts know it, other teams know it, and the Eagles themselves know it. They are burying teams and dancing, literally dancing, on their graves.

This isn’t one guy flexing or flapping his arms like a bird after a big play. By the time Ronald Darby runs onto the field and Fletcher Cox figures out what’s going on, there are FOURTEEN PLAYERS doing the Electric Slide like it’s the ending of The Replacements. That’s more than 26 PERCENT of the active roster dancing like my aunt with kankles at the wedding I’ll never have. That’s next level swag.

I’ve heard some comparisons made between this team and the 1980’s Miami Hurricanes teams that never hesitated to rub the opposition’s nose in shit.  I don’t know about that (the Electric Slide, bowling with Alshon Jeffery, and hitting dingers doesn’t quite have the same malice), but the Eagles have quickly become the cockiest team in the NFL—and I’m into it.  I can hear the dissenting opinions now:

“Oh, but you don’t want to anger your opponents. It will give them extra motivation to beat you.”

Shut up, nerds. This stuff is fun.

You think the 90’s Cowboys teams, or, more recently, the Legion of Boom Seahawks teams worried about stuff like this? Fuck no. Announcers have fondled the Seahawks over their overt confidence and trash talk since the start of the decade. If anything, the Eagles’ new-found cockiness should serve them well. Does this look like the type of team that’s going to get rattled by “The 12th Man” on Sunday Night? Again, fuck no. Not only are the Eagles the better team, there’s not a doubt in my mind they feel as if they will go west for two weeks, throttle the Seahawks and then best the Rams to return east at 12-1, with the NFC’s top-seed on lock. The current confidence, camaraderie, and mindset of this team is exactly what they will need if they are the team that’s ultimately going to erase a 57-year championship drought. That’s what I expect of them at this point, and, undoubtedly, that’s what they expect of themselves.

Oh, and, uh, I don’t know if the Eagles are taking suggestions, but if they are, I’d like to propose a team-oriented version of this juicy Quinton Flowers touchdown celebration when the Cowboys come to The Linc:
