Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment is on a tear. These guys are not messing around.

Next up for the HBSE empire is the “76ers Fieldhouse,” a 140,000 square foot Wilmington facility that will host the G-League squad beginning in 2018-2019.

From the release:

Set to open in the fourth quarter of 2018, 76ers Fieldhouse will serve as home to the Philadelphia 76ers’ NBA G League affiliate team beginning with the 2018-19 season. The 76ers NBA G League affiliate team – which will be rebranded next year, pending league approval – will play its home games at 76ers Fieldhouse, configured to host approximately 2,500 fans per game.

Boasting three full-size professional basketball courts, two indoor turf soccer fields, a world-class sports performance and athletic training area, as well as retail and office space, this dynamic new facility will also serve as a beacon for youth sports in Delaware.

The facility will be privately funded and host programs for underserved youth in the region. That matches the Sixers’ efforts in Camden, where the new practice facility was recently built.

This complex will be located on a nine-acre piece of land off Garasches Lane and Route 13, near Eden Park:

Interestingly enough, the the facility will be developed by Chris Buccini, Rob Buccini, and David Pollin of the Buccini/Pollin Group, who also developed PPL Park back in 2010. The trio are now Philadelphia Union board members, simply for the fact that they owned the land that the stadium was built on… I think. They may have invested some cash as well. Honestly, I’m kind of rusty since leaving the Union beat, but BPG owns a ton of random land in Delaware and New Castle Counties. I don’t know if they specifically own this piece of property in Wilmington, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

Since day one, they’ve been listed right underneath chairman Jay Sugarman on the Union ownership hierarchy:

I wouldn’t mind Josh Harris and David Blitzer ditching Crystal Palace to invest in your team, your town, your Philadelphia Union. It makes way too much sense, but that’s another story for another time.

If this new building is anything like the facility over in Camden, expect it to be fantastic. It will probably have a very “Silicon Valley” vibe to it. From the rendering included in the press release, it looks like it will have a similar design:

The Sixers will secure a facility naming rights partner.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for the first quarter of 2018 to go along with a season ticket campaign for the soon-to-be rebranded G-League squad.
