Lost in the “Negadelphia” pissing and moaning after another Eagles WIN on Sunday was the news of a potentially long-term injury for Sixers/87ers/Sixers/87ers shooter Furkan Korkmaz.

The 20-year-old rookie suffered a left foot fracture during this play in Friday night’s game in Grand Rapids:

You can see Korkmaz backtrack and plant, and it’s the final step of that sequence where he starts hobbling in pain.

The diagnosis is a “Lisfranc” injury, where one or more metatarsal bone is separated from the tarsus. That’s the area where your toes connect to the broad part of your foot:

You’ve probably heard of the issue before, but it’s more prominent in football than basketball. Le’Veon Bell suffered the injury during training camp of his rookie year. Redskins rookie Jonathan Allen was diagnosed with a Lisfranc in week five and ruled out for the rest of this season. Matt Schaub and Dwight Freeney had the same injury.

A 2016 study of 28 NFL players revealed that 11.1 months was the average time required to fully recover.

As for basketball, Udonis Haslem suffered a Lisfranc back in 2010. Marcin Gortat had a sprain, not a fracture, in 2010, when he was stepped on by then-Raptor Amir Johnson.

There’s no word on the degree of severity in Korkmaz’s injury. “Further evaluation and testing is underway,” according to the press release, which says he has a Lisfranc “injury” but doesn’t specify if there’s a break or separation.

Korkmaz played in nine games with Delaware, averaging 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in 32 minutes per game. He played 20 minutes in the Sixers’ recent loss to the Pelicans and made a few spot appearances off the bench to compensate for injuries to Justin Anderson and Robert Covington.
