Well, it started good for the Flyers. And then it went completely downhill.

After a Jordan Weal goal, the Flyers gave up five unanswered to the New York Rangers, two to a vintage looking Rick Nash, for a 5-1 loss at Madison Square Garden. That snaps a four-game win streak for a team that’s currently three points out of a wild card spot. A win would’ve put the team in a playoff spot for the time with 38 games left in the season.

Brian Elliott returned to the net, but gave up all five goals in two periods of play. Michal Neuvirth took over in the third. Could he stay in net for Thursday’s game against Toronto?

As for now, there’s no time for panicking yet, but as we’ve seen for the majority of this season, the Flyers have been a roller coaster of a team, and we probably can’t predict how they’ll be for the rest of the year.

They might have to make a move at the trade deadline as well if they want to make the playoffs.

The Flyers return home Thursday night when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs. Eric Lindros’ No. 88 will also be raised to the rafters.

The Roundup:

We’re another day close to the NFC Championship Game. The Eagles will return to practice later today to continue preparations for the Vikings.

Kevin Kinkead dives in to the Case Keenum-led Viking offense.

Some of Keenum’s former Houston Cougar teammates discuss what they remembered of him:

“God-first guys, high character guys. You’ll never hear anything negative said about either guy. Always super-positive,” Brooks said. “Both have overcome obstacles to be in the positions they are now – throughout their careers.”

Brooks recalled Keenum having a lot of success initially in 2013; “He was kind of a sparkplug for the offense.” So Brooks said he isn’t shocked to see Keenum where he is now.

“The things you see him do now – especially throws on the run – I thought he always excelled at,” Brooks said of Keenum, who completed 67.6 percent of his passes this season, for 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. “He went to U of H and set all those records … I didn’t know much about him, coming out, but in Houston, he was a bigger celebrity than [then-starter Matt] Schaub was. In Houston, he was the man.”

Could the game come down to who has the edge on third down? But for the defense, maybe the key is stopping the Vikings on first and second downs.

Left fielder Rhys Hoskins discussed his move to left field after the signing of Carlos Santana:

“Having Carlos is exciting for the city and exciting for the team,” Hoskins said. “We add a guy who has proven himself in this league for five or six years at a very high level so to kind of insert that into the lineup and into the clubhouse, especially with such a young team — I think we’re going to feel that exponentially throughout the year.

“Left field is a challenge. It’s a challenge that I’m definitely excited about. I started to feel more comfortable out there toward the end of the year.

“I think I can be just fine out there. I’m not necessarily going to be a Gold Glover. I just don’t have the speed that some guys out there do, especially in today’s game. But I think I’ll be just fine and contribute to the team defensively as much as I can and make the plays that I’m supposed to.”
