Today should have been a stress-free ride up Broad Street for Eagles cornerback Sidney Jones, but instead he experienced what is arguably one of life’s greatest anxieties.

The poor guy lost his phone.

I’m not sure there’s a worse feeling. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’ll momentarily forget where I left my phone. I’ll feel for it in my pockets. It’s not there. My jacket? Nope. I survey the room. “Oh shit,” I think to myself. Heart flutters. Cold sweat. Sheer panic.

“Do I have insurance? Did I sync my contacts? What types of fucked up things did I say in my text messages? Who have I talked shit on? Man, I hope I deleted THAT. What windows did I leave open in my web browser? What’s in my camera roll?”

Agonizing. I’m not suggesting Jones lives an impure life, but even the best people have things in their phones they wouldn’t want a stranger to see. Fortunately for him, his phone fell into the hands of some friendly Eagles fans who took a unique approach to helping the rookie corner find it.

I love how this group had some fun with it and did the right thing at the same time—I’m not sure that everybody would be so cool about it. I’m inclined to question how a pro athlete doesn’t have a passcode on his phone, but today is a day for goodwill and celebration, so I’ll leave out the hard-hitting questions and critique. No word on additional recon these fans performed, but it appears the group was straight up and, ultimately, got the phone back to him.

Jones probably dodged a bullet here. His former college coach, Chris Petersen, knows the deal.

Lucky dog, indeed.
