Let’s the ride the Bennett train while it’s hot.

Michael’s younger brother, Martellus, is now available after being cut by the Patriots Wednesday in a cap-clearing move. The means the 30-year-old tight end is now looking for his fourth team in four seasons.

Bennett really fell off this year after a productive 2016. He signed a 3 year, $21 million deal with Green Bay but was placed on waivers with the Packers claiming that he had failed to disclose a medical condition.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss explains:

…his arrival in New England last November — after the Patriots claimed him on waivers from the Green Bay Packers — made headlines because of the way it unfolded. The Packers waived him with a designation that he failed to disclose a physical condition. Green Bay had waived Bennett with the intention of placing him on injured reserve due to a shoulder issue, but the Patriots claimed him.

Green Bay’s attempt to recoup Bennett’s signing bonus money through a grievance filed late last year was turned down by an independent arbitrator a few weeks ago, but the team plans to appeal.

It looked like a shrewd move by the Pats, but it backfired, and they wound up placing him on IR anyway with a combination hamstring and shoulder injury. He finished with 6 catches for 53 yards in two total games.

I don’t know what Bennett’s health situation is like right now, but he’s on the market. The Eagles will likely lose Trey Burton in free agency and feature a 33 year old Brent Celek backing up Zach Ertz in 2018.

Martellus has been more than productive in the past and somehow always ended up on my fantasy team:

Hmm…

You know, it wasn’t long ago that he was doing things like this:

Or this:

So how much does Bennett have left in the tank?

Is the shoulder/hamstring an issue?

Would he sign for cheap to play with his brother?

My gut is telling me to stay away, but these are questions worth asking.
