It was a game the Sixers needed to win, and they did just that.

Thanks to a resurgent Robert Covington, the Sixers bounced back from Sunday’s loss to Milwaukee with a dominant 128-114 win over the Charlotte Hornets. Covington led the way with a team-high 22 points and went 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Ben Simmons posted a near triple-double with 16 points, 13 assists, and eight rebounds, while Dario Saric, Joel Embiid, JJ Redick, and Ersan Ilyasova also finished in double figures.

The Sixers are still a game back of the Washington Wizards thanks to an overtime victory over the Miami Heat last night. Speaking of the Heat, the Sixers will make another trip to South Beach on Thursday.

The new NFL league year begins next week. And things appear to be picking up.

First, Brent Celek wants to stay in Philadelphia and retire as an Eagle.

Trey Burton is expected to leave the Eagles in free agency.

On the defensive side of the ball, NFL Insider Chris Mortensen said that the Eagles could trade one of their defensive backs for a third round pick:

“I’ll be surprised if the Eagles don’t have a third round pick, at least. Listen, we know they’re heavy in defensive backs. With Sidney Jones coming back, that pick’s going to end up paying off big time. And I think one of those defensive backs could be moved for a third-round pick, possibly.”

Connor Barwin was kind of sad the Eagles won the Super Bowl without him:

“I was in a weird state for a couple of days,” he said. It was two opposite feelings: “I was kind of bummed out that I wasn’t part of it.” But he was also happy for his friends on the team, and for the city, where he still mostly lives in the offseason. After a few days feeling sorry for himself, he watched the team’s victory parade on television, and saw how happy everyone was, and exhaled. “I was like, man, I’m over any personal weird feelings I’m having. I’m just happy for everybody involved”—even guys like me, barging into his home in barely concealed glee over something that ultimately didn’t have much to do with him.
