Good news: The Flyers gained another point in their quest for the playoffs.

Bad news: The Flyers lost another point in their quest for the playoffs.

Alexander Radulov’s goal, 40 seconds into overtime, gave the Dallas Stars a 3-2 win last night, their first after losing eight straight.

Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov scored the two Flyers goals in the first two periods. Despite outshooting the Stars 14-6 in the third, Philadelphia could not put the puck past Kari Lehtonen.

In other notable results, Pittsburgh lost to Detroit, New Jersey edged the Hurricanes by a goal, and Columbus crushed the Oilers. The Blue Jackets took over third place in the Metropolitan division with the extra point. The Flyers are now two points behind Pittsburgh for second in the division.

The wild card race is still interesting, thanks to the Devils’ win:

Florida having eight games left in the season is huge. If the Flyers can begin to pull away from the Devils, they should be fine in making the playoffs. If they fall behind New Jersey, there’s a good chance the Panthers can leapfrog the Flyers and eliminate them. Florida has a tough game tonight in Toronto against the Maple Leafs. Here’s hoping there’s even more playoff action at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers are back in action tonight as they take on the Colorado Avalanche at 10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia +. Petr Mrazek could start again. Or it could be Alex Lyon. Or we could see the return of Michal Neuvirth.

In other Flyers news, the team signed goalie Felix Sandstrom to an entry-level contract. Sandstrom was a third round pick of the Flyers in the 2015 NHL Draft.

The Roundup:

It’s safe to say we’re still giddy about Markelle Fultz playing Monday night. He still has some things to clean up, but it still was a really good return. And we see him tonight at home against the Knicks at 7 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia!

Before his return, Bryan Colangelo spoke on the Fultz situation that has lingered nearly the entire season.

With the playoffs close, how much can Fultz contribute in the postseason?

Around the NBA, Indiana and Washington won, while Cleveland lost. A win tonight and a Cleveland loss would mean the Sixers would take over third place in the East.

There’s also some news with their G-League affiliate in Delaware! With the team moving into their new fieldhouse next season, the Delaware 87ers will be renamed the Delaware Blue Coats.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson spoke to reporters yesterday. He discussed a possible reunion with Darren Sproles, Wentz’s rehab, Patrick Robinson replacements, and the Philly Special.

Off a Super Bowl win, how will Pederson evolve his offense?

“We’re still working through our scheme,” Pederson said during the annual coaches breakfast at the NFL owners meetings. “I’ve got two new offensive coaches in Gunter Brewer and Carson Walch, getting Press Taylor comfortable in his new role and Mike in his new role.”

Pederson doesn’t care where a concept or play comes from, it just better be good. The West coast-based offense he learned from Andy Reid and brought with him from the Chiefs has evolved to include the many backgrounds of his staff. But Pederson has also culled ideas from researching other offenses.

“As we study these college kids, we’re always looking at the college world a little bit,” Pederson said. “So we’ll pull some stuff from there. We just break it down by situation — who’s the best third-down offense? Who’s the best red zone offense? Who’s the best short-yardage goal line offense?

“We just kind of pick a couple and see if there’s anything unusual that they did, maybe a formation or a personnel group, something that might benefit us, and see if we can incorporate it into our system.”

Owner Jeffrey Lurie also spoke with reporters. He’s still trying to get an alternate kelly green uniform for the Eagles, but it sounds like the league will take its time.

“I don’t know what entity of the league (is disallowing a second helmet), but in the end it’s probably the commissioner. They have to decide if they want to go with a plan to be a two-helmet plan for the NFL, and that’s not what we do now. It’s a one-helmet league, so there’s ramifications in that, I suppose. But they know with the Eagles, it’s important to us. We really want to be able to have Kelly green jerseys at times, and to make it look really right, you should have matching helmets.

“You’d have to research with (the NFL) on (their objections). There are a lot teams that don’t want that to happen, maybe. Some teams really want it to happen. There are some complications to it, so I’ll just leave them to work it out.”
Lurie’s also very appreciative of the numerous reactions from fans after winning the big game.

There’s also a Jason Kelce Mummers bobblehead. It’s already sold out.

The Phillies ended Spring Training with a 5-5 tie against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Opening Day is tomorrow afternoon against the Atlanta Braves. Go crazy folks, go crazy.

Jake Arrieta gave up four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work He also balked and committed a throwing error. But despite the mixed results, he’s happy with his progress.

“It’s not like you want to go out there and give up a bunch of runs in Spring Training — but [the runs] don’t count,” Arrieta said. “It’s more about getting your timing, pitching in real game situations. You still want to have success and locate, but for me, it’s being able to change speeds, execute quality pitches down in the strike zone and force contact.”

With his first Spring Training in the books, manager Gabe Kapler is pleased with how his team looked.

Matt Breen profiles Sam Fuld, a former major leaguer who will help the team with making analytics easier for players to understand.

In other sports news, the NFL and owners agreed to new rules, including tackling changes. New 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman wasn’t happy about it.

“It’s ridiculous. Like telling a driver if you touch the lane lines, you’re getting a ticket. (It’s) gonna lead to more lower-extremity injuries.”

In his father’s #27 and in one of his old homes at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. delivered a walk-off home run in the Blue Jays’ final Spring Training game:
