It finally happened. Bryan Colangelo is out. Brett Brown, for the time being, is in.

An investigation by the law firm the team hired concluded that Colangelo’s wife, Barbara Bottini, operated the Twitter accounts. We also found out that she impeded parts of the investigation by conducting a factory reset of her iPhone. The firm also acknowledged that they can’t confirm if Colangelo knew of the accounts.

Despite the investigation concluding on June 5, it took another two days before a decision was made. That might be because Jerry Colangelo reportedly tried to intervene and destroy relationships with teams around the league if his son was fired. Joshua Harris, however, denied that Philly Voice report at Thursday’s press conference. Harris, who arrived and left in his personal helicopter, said the elder Colangelo’s contract expires at the end of the year and explained that Jerry’s status was not an issue currently up for discussion.

Shortly after he resigned/parted ways with the organization, Bryan Colangelo released a statement of his own. He pretty much threw his wife under the bus and denied sharing any sensitive content with her. But how did she know that Jahlil Okafor failed a physical? He might be lying.

We learned a little more about the Colangelos’ plans when they took charge of the team:

It’s a lot to process. Imagine if Wright led this team.

Moving forward, this team is fine. Without a doubt. I have trust in Brown in terms of picking a few quality players in the upcoming draft and being a great salesman for top talent free agents, and maybe Kawhi Leonard. Brown has a ton of respect around the league and he seems like a guy players would want to play for.

Brown said he doesn’t want to take the full GM role, so who might replace Colangelo? David Griffin seems like the lead candidate at this time, but Harris also didn’t rule out a return of Sam Hinkie. That seems like a long shot, but still a possibility.

For now, the Sixers have to worry about setting up their big boards for the NBA Draft and conducting player workouts. Thank God.

The Roundup:

Check out the latest edition of the Crossing Broadcast, featuring a ton of Colangelo talk, as expected.

Out in Chicago, the Phillies wrapped up a 10-game road trip with a tough 4-3 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. They finished the trip 3-7.

The game was tied at one entering the bottom of the sixth before the Cubs took a 3-1 lead. With one out, Anthony Rizzo popped out to left fielder Dylan Cozens, who nailed Albert Almora Jr. out at home.

Or so we thought.

Andrew Knapp was blocking the plate with his left leg. The call was overturned, and the Cubs scored the eventual game-winning run, despite Scott Kingery hitting a two-run double the following inning.

The throw by Cozens was the only good thing he did in the loss, despite having a homer Wednesday night. He struck out in three of his at-bats and did walk twice.

Nick Pivetta pitched five innings, giving up all four runs on six hits and striking out six. Tyler Chatwood pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up a run on four hits with six strikeouts, but he did walk seven batters.

The defense needs some work, but the offense also needs some pop. Suddenly, the Phillies look…average again.

Things can turn around this weekend, but the Phils host the NL leading Milwaukee Brewers for a 90s weekend. They’ll wear the white throwback jerseys tonight, with Vince Velasquez on the mound. First pitch is at 7:05 PM on NBC10. Sunday will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ’93 team.

It was the final day of OTAs for the Eagles, and there was less politics around practice. Thank God. And Mike Wallace apparently shined in the workouts.

Meanwhile, Greg Ward looked like he suffered a major injury, but sounds like he’ll be fine.

After Malcolm Jenkins held up signs on Wednesday during media availability, will anyone start to listen?

Brandon Graham hasn’t practiced yet due to ankle surgery. But apparently that forced fumble he made in the Super Bowl was also on a bum hamstring. Legend.

After getting released by the Eagles, there are no hard feelings from Mychal Kendricks:

“While I’m looking forward to my next chapter,” Kendricks said, “I don’t know if any city I play in can match the loyalty and enthusiasm of the Eagles’ fan base. I will truly miss that.”

The passion in his voice was undeniable about his love for Philadelphia, and the fan base in this city.

“What I learned from previous Super Bowl winners like Chris Long and Malcolm Jenkins this past season on how to play at a championship level,” Kendricks said, “is something I can’t wait to share with my new teammates where ever I go.”

“I hold no animosity or ill will against the Philadelphia Eagles,” he said. “They gave me my professional start, helped me grow as a player and a man, paid me good money. I wish I could have stayed here, but I understand the business. I wish my former teammates well. We are brothers for life.”

The Eagles will get their Super Bowl rings next Thursday. Because they won the Super Bowl.

In other sports news, the Washington Capitals edged the Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history. Alex Ovechkin won the Conn Smythe award for playoff MVP.

And they had a ton of fun:
