It’s been over five days since the Bryan Colangelo story came out.

We thought that maybe some sort of announcement would’ve come Friday afternoon after Adrian Wojnarowski reported the team was considering firing him as the investigation focused on Colangelo’s wife, Barbara Bottini.

Friday night on Sportscenter, Brian Windhorst said the team would decide Colangelo’s fate in 24 hours. They passed, and nothing new came out. And that’s all we heard about the situation this weekend. Besides the guy sitting behind home plate with multiple Colangelo-related shirts and LeBron’s joke:

Well that’s not good.

Ownership hasn’t done anything since the initial press release on Wednesday, and we don’t know when an update will come, if any. They need to do something soon, because the draft is in a few weeks and they need to do a ton of pre-draft workouts. And free agency begins in less than a month. And it’s the biggest July the team has had in recent memory, if not ever.

But even with the Colangelo situation, would free agents still want to come to Philly? Former Cavs GM David Griffin thinks so:

“I do think it is significant, though, that Rich Paul is the representative for Ben Simmons as well. So he’s going to know the organization very well, and I think that will certainly give them a leg up, because I know Brett Brown is somebody that you’re going to look at when you’re LeBron, and you’re going to look at Pop, you’re going to look at the coach in L.A. … all the teams he’s went to, coaching is going to matter. And I think because Ben has intimate knowledge of Coach Brown, that will probably help.”

We’ll have to see about everybody else as well. But if this situation affects free agent decisions negatively, I think it’s an obvious decision. He’s got to go.

Meanwhile, here’s a quick summary of how the Phillies did this weekend:

They got swept by the San Francisco Giants out west and scored only one run during the three-game series, a home run by Jake Arrieta.

Friday night, Joe Panik returned from the DL for San Fran and put the Giants out in front early en route to a 4-0 win. On Saturday, Vince Velasquez pitched five strong innings before the Phils gave up two runs later in the game as the offense was shut down again in a 2-0 loss. That first run probably should not have counted.

Then yesterday, Jake Arrieta was dealing up until the sixth. That’s when San Fran used a five-run inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Andrew McCutchen, to take the sweep with a 6-1 win. Arrieta expressed his displeasure.

Pretty much what he said.

They’ll have a chance to clean up the horses–t with an off day today before ending their 10-game road trip with a visit to Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs.

But tonight is the MLB Draft, with the Phillies picking third overall. Maybe an Oregon State player could wear the red pinstripes in the future:

Mayo: Nick Madrigal, 2B/SS, Oregon State — The Phillies would have interest in either of the top two, and all the talk has been about college bats if [Casey] Mize is gone, with Madrigal and Wichita State third baseman Alec Bohm the prime candidates.
Callis: Nick Madrigal, 2B/SS, Oregon State — Barring a surprise with the first two selections, Philadelphia will decide between Madrigal and Bohm.

History has shown that the team is a hit-or-miss with their first round picks.

So news came out that Mychal Kendricks was signing with the Cleveland Browns Sunday afternoon, before Kendricks denied it.

Alright. So later on, money details came out. A good deal I’d say.

But Kendricks is still mad:

I would be too if I was going from the Super Bowl champs to a team that didn’t win a game last year.

But on the bright side, the Eagles do get $6 million more in salary cap space thanks to releasing Kendricks.

Carson Wentz’s charity softball game at Citizens Bank Park was a huge success.

Could the Eagles look at a Virginia Tech cornerback in the Supplemental Draft?

Expect a jump from Derek Barnett this season after his solid rookie season:

“Most players make a significant improvement from year one to year two,” he said. “I think it’s sort of one of the adages of the NFL. That’s where you see a significant improvement. He set that bar pretty high in his first year. Made a lot of big plays for us. Also gained a lot of experience dealing with the long season and not just four preseason games [and the regular season], but deep into the playoffs and things like that. He had some bumps and bruises just like everybody, and the experience of dealing with that stuff. But, yeah, I think he’s more seasoned now, little bit stronger now.”

In other sports news, Steph Curry’s Finals record nine three-pointers gave Golden State a 122-103 win over the Cavaliers to give the Warriors a 2-0 series lead.

The Capitals defeated the Golden Knights with a 3-1 decision in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals. They have a 2-1 series lead, and will look to put Vegas on the brink of elimination in Game 4 tonight at 8 PM on NBC.

Delaware will offer legal sports betting beginning tomorrow.

The NBA will test out a coaches challenge during Summer League.
