It looked like the Phillies were going to win last night heading into the top of the ninth.

But the bullpen had to get three outs. This time, they blew that chance. Even with two outs and Yairo Munoz striking out, Victor Arano’s pitch got past catcher Andrew Knapp, keeping the Cardinals alive. Kolten Wong ended up with an RBI single with the next at-bat off of Adam Morgan. And your reminder that the Phillies don’t have a closer after sending Hector Neris down to Triple-A.

Then in the 10th, Jake Thompson gave up a leadoff home run to Tommy Pham to give the Cardinals a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Aaron Altherr, who came in to replace Nick Williams after he took a baseball to the face, was the team’s last hope and did this:

With one swing of the bat, the Phillies turned one of their worst losses into a decent 6-5 win. Altherr probably would’ve gotten Hoskins home if Marcel Ozuna just played off the bounce.

Odubel Herrera recorded a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, which was part of a four run opening frame, and Nick Pivetta had a very strong outing with 13 strikeouts on four hits.

Vince Velasquez will look to continue his hot streak tonight at 7:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. You might want to go to a game soon, since they’ve won six of their last eight.

The Roundup:

The NBA Draft is in two days. The Sixers hold the 10th and 26th picks in the first round. But could that change? A move to the top five could be in play.

The team will hold more draft workouts today. Six of them will be in the morning:

They’ll also have a private workout with Kentucky’s Kevin Knox at 1 PM. This is his second workout for the team, as well as Zhaire Smith of Texas Tech.

Could Michigan State’s Miles Bridges be in the mix?

Who will help make the draft night decisions alongside Brett Brown and the owners?

There’s Marc Eversley, the vice president of player personnel; Ned Cohen, vice president of basketball operations and chief of staff, and Alex Rucker, the vice president of analytics and strategy. All three were brought in by Bryan Colangelo in a semi-remake of the front office. There is Vince Rozman, the senior director of basketball operations, a holdover from the Sam Hinkie regime, and capping things off is Elton Brand, general manager for the Delaware Blue Coats.

For the past few weeks, it has been the job of those five individuals to get Brown up to speed on the scouting material, checklists, and player reviews that have long been in the works. That catching up and scouring of material will continue from now through Thursday.

Brand, Eversley, and Rozman have attended combines, pro days, and various workouts around the country in preparation for the draft. Along with Cohen, Rucker, and the Sixers’ coaching staff, they’ve been watching film with Brown, going over any and all possibilities.

Since the Sixers have plans to land at least one big name during free agency, six draft picks (10, 26, 38, 39, 56, 60) is too many and they expect for the deals to come rushing in.

“Right now we’re evaluating the entire landscape, there’s going to be a lot of deal flow coming in,” Brand said Monday. “So we have to be prepared to strike and make sure we have the advantage there whatever happens — if we take the picks or possibly sell a pick or whatever we do with it.”

The NHL Draft is three days away. Similar to the Sixers, the Flyers have two first round picks at 14 and 19. Should GM Ron Hextall move up?

If the Flyers move up to get a player, “there may be a little bit more projection and a little bit more potential,” Button said last week, “but, to me, to get two players over one in this draft, that’s where I’d take my chances.”

So who could they take with one of those picks? Is Jack McBain an option?
