The bullpen did it again! Twice! And this time, the Phillies lost by a run.

The Phils built a 4-2 lead when Gabe Kapler replaced Vince Velasquez with Tommy Hunter after 6 1/3. Velasquez struck out eight and allowed three walks. That’s when the Phillies began to blow up. After getting Greg Garcia to fly out, Hunter allowed three straight hits and four runs to wipe out another quality start by Velasquez.

But the Phils did come back to tie the game in the eighth thanks to a Rhys Hoskins double. Then the ninth inning came and nothing could go wrong when Seranthony Dominguez comes in right? He’s been the only good relief pitcher on the team.

Well with an 0-2 count and two outs…

And that’s how the Phils lost 7-6.

To make matters worse, J.P. Crawford took a pitch to his left hand and fractured it in the process. He’s out 4-6 weeks. At least Nick Williams only has a broken nose and could play today.

Matt Klentak did not rule out renting a player for the remaining two months of the season. That could be Manny Machado, but in the long-term, he needs to get some relief help. Pat Neshek is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment next week, which helps a little. But there still a need for more reinforcements.

Jake Arrieta takes the mound in the rubber match of the series this afternoon at 1:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Let’s hope he doesn’t have another bad start.

The NBA Draft is tomorrow. For the past couple of days, the focus has been the Sixers possibly moving up to #4 and trade with the Grizzlies in order to get Luka Doncic. However…

I would not want to trade up to three just for Doncic. And the team doesn’t want to give up Robert Covington and Dario Saric. My guess is they won’t make a trade into the top five. But maybe up a couple spots to make sure they get Mikal Bridges.

But what about Kevin Knox of Kentucky? It sounds like things are heating up with the Sixers and his camp, if Bridges is off the board:

Bridges is the Sixers’ top target if they remain at No. 10. Knox and former Kentucky teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are high on their wish list if Bridges is off the board, according to sources.

As a 6-foot-6 freshman point guard, Gilgeous-Alexander was regarded as the Wildcats’ best player at the conclusion of the season. The Toronto native is a good passer and facilitator who can run an offense. He can also slide to shooting guard, which makes him a good complement to Ben Simmons. His defense and his 7-foot wingspan are arguably his best attributes.

However, the Sixers would be crowded at point guard, with Simmons, Markelle Fultz and T.J. McConnell already on the roster. So it would be interesting to see what his acquisition would mean for Fultz and/or McConnell.

As for the second round, the team would rather want more picks than cash. We’ve returned to our roots.

The NHL Draft is Friday night and the Flyers could make a move. Wayne Simmonds?

Multiple sources tell me the Flyers are gearing to potentially trade Wayne Simmonds. He’s a year from free agency and coming off a 24-goal, injury-hindered season. He scored 120 goals the four seasons before that, is big, is tough (the guy caved in Wild winger Eric Nystrom’s face once during a fight as a King), is a leader. He’s a right-shot wing and makes a reasonable $5 million with an even more reasonable $3.975 million cap hit. He has a 12-team no-trade clause, per capfriendly.com.

Meanwhile, the Phantoms signed forward Colin McDonald and defenseman David Drake to one-year AHL contracts.

With the Eagles doing nothing on the field until training camp, they’re still newsworthy in the summer.

Jake Elliott (my baby) did a lip sync battle against Queen Latifah. Doug Pederson discussed the origin of “Philly Special.” And Stefen Wisniewski saw a sand sculpture of an Eagles Super Bowl ring. Because the Eagles won the Super Bowl:

Meanwhile, the Eagles’ top 5 corners – Jalen Mills, Ronald Darby, Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, and Avonte Maddox, all playing on their rookie contracts – will count for a combined $4,495,873 against the salary cap in 2018. There are 39 individual CBs who will make more on their own.

We’ll see how Roseman’s financial investments in cornerbacks develop when the team’s current corners are due for a second contract.

At tight end, there’s an even more steep market inefficiency. Zach Ertz is making $8,500,000 per year, which makes him the sixth-highest paid tight end in the NFL. The highest-paid tight end is Jimmy Graham, who makes $10 million per year, only $1.5 million per year more than Ertz. Rob Gronkowski is somehow still playing on a deal he signed in 2012 in which he’s only making $9 million per year.

Wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer uses crazy sayings and energy with his group of pass catchers, and he’s making a impact on them.

In other sports news, Japan and Senegal upset Colombia and Poland respectively in Group H, while Russia is on the verge of clinching a spot in the knockout stage with a 3-1 win over Egypt.

Today, Portugal takes on Morocco, Uruguay faces off against Saudi Arabia, and Spain plays Iran. Ronaldo already did this for Portugal:

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich met with Kawhi Leonard in California. Leonard wants to be traded to the Lakers over the Clippers, but the Spurs aren’t motivated to trade him now.

Two closers got injured in weird ways. Cubs closer Brandon Morrow wasn’t available after injuring his back…while taking his pants off. Also, the Giants’ Hunter Strickland reportedly punched a door and will need surgery. He’s out at least six to eight weeks.
