Per Marc Narducci, who does literally everything at the Inquirer:

The story is behind the Philly.com paywall but says that the games would be played in 2026 and 2027. Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour confirmed Tuesday that there have been discussions with Temple officials to round out the schedule.

The teams last played in 2016, when PSU won 34-27 at Beaver Stadium en route to a Big 10 title and Rose Bowl loss. Temple won 27-10 the year prior, beating Penn State for the first time since 1941 and finishing 10-4 overall.

As a college football fan who hates the fact that no one here cares about the sport, I’d love to see Temple and Penn State play every year. But I can understand why that might be a lose/lose for PSU, since they’re expected to beat the Owls every single time without receiving a significant resume boost in exchange. A win against Temple doesn’t do much for Penn State, but a win against Penn State does a lot for Temple, yeah?

Of course, things could change by 2026. Maybe Temple is great and PSU is average eight years from now, but I doubt it.

Penn State plays Idaho, Buffalo, and Pitt in the non-conference portion of this year’s schedule, so it’s not exactly murderer’s row. Virginia Tech and Auburn are on future schedules, but playing Ohio State and Michigan and a typical Big 10 schedule every year is difficult enough. PSU doesn’t exactly need to load up in the OOC slate.

Temple plays Buffalo, Villanova, Maryland, and the Boston College Big East turncoats this year. Rutgers, Miami, and Oklahoma are scheduled for the next decade.

Penn State vs. Temple makes a lot of sense. I like it. I’d prefer more regional college football, but I can understand Nittany Lion fans wanting no part of this.
