After surviving the 16 inning thriller that ended earlier in the day, the Phillies took the rubber match of their series with the Dodgers in a 7-3 win yesterday afternoon.

After a Rhys Hoskins solo shot tied things at one in the bottom of the first, the Phils exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Things got started with a Scott Kingery homer, his first since June 29, before Andrew Knapp drove in another run on a double, followed by a bases-clearing triple by Carlos Santana to bring home three more runs.

Jake Arrieta had a very good start, one that was much needed. He gave up three runs off five hits and struck out six in six innings of work.

The Phils start a four-game series this weekend in Cincinnati. Ranger Suárez will make his MLB debut in tonight’s opener at 7:10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. He’ll be the first left-handed pitcher to start for the Phillies since Adam Morgan did it back on September 28, 2016.

As for the trade deadline, a new name popped up: Orioles center fielder Adam Jones. He would certainly be a defensive upgrade in the starting lineup, but doesn’t do a lot for the bench. The trade deadline is five days away.

Eagles training camp begins later today! The Birds practice at noon at the NovaCare Complex, and head coach Doug Pederson will talk to the media at around 2 PM. Kevin previewed the offense and defense the past couple of days.

Prior to the start of camp, the team signed former Ravens and Colts wide receiver Kamar Aiken to a one-year deal.

Despite an earlier report that Carson Wentz would start on the PUP list, that was reversed later in the day. He’ll just be limited in practice. Brandon Graham will reportedly start on the PUP list.

Could Kamu Grugier-Hill be a starter at linebacker?

“I played a hybrid role (in college),” he said. “I covered tight ends, I was in the box, I did a lot of run (support). My position was never ‘safety.’ I was more of a ‘hybrid linebacker.’”

When asked what his strengths as a linebacker are, Grugier-Hill gave an unsurprising answer.

“Definitely speed,” he said, “and my ability to play pass coverage.”

Sproles was tough but uplifting, the life coach of the bunch. He created a healthy sense of competition to prevent any slacking among his guys. “He’ll let everybody know that he is working harder than you and if you’re not working as hard as him then you need to step your game up,” Hicks says. “We get to the facility at the same time, and Sproles will be finished with his workout about when me and Chris [Maragos] are walking in to the gym to start.”
