Resorts will open its sportsbook tomorrow. It’ll be the fifth to open in Atlantic City since a sports gambling bill was signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy on June 11.

Joining the Borgata, Ocean Resort, Wild Wild West and Harrah’s, Resorts has its tentacles deep into sports betting. They are the casino of record for DraftKings Sportsbook (each online sportsbook has to be backed by a licensed operator), which officially went live to the public last week, and will be for BetStars, a sportsbook from The Stars Group set to launch before the start of football season. So Resorts will be the first casino to have both a land-based and online sportsbook(s).

The sportsbook will be backed by sports betting powerhouse technology company SBTech, which according to a July 2 press release will “provide its sportsbook solution across on-property, online and mobile channels in New Jersey.”

So how is the New Jersey sports betting picture shaping up for football season?

FanDuel

FanDuel was actually bought out by European betting powerhouse Betfair earlier this year– it will serve as the US brand for its sportsbooks. Already the FanDuel Sportsbook is open at the Meadowlands, and their online app is set to go live before football season.

888sport

You probably haven’t heard of 888 unless you play online casinos in New Jersey, but they are planning to launch an online sportsbook before the start of football season.

BetStars

The aforementioned BetStars, a partner site of PokerStars, plans to launch by football season.

PlayMGM

Two weeks ago, MGM’s CEO Jim Murren said an online sports betting property was scheduled to launch through its Borgata casino, but that hasn’t happened yet. MGM has partnered with the NBA, so at the very least they should be live be basketball season.

There are others on the way – including PointsBet and William Hill – but we don’t know much about the timing.

The point is that the options for sports betting in New Jersey will soon look much different than they do now.

We have a full guide to NJ online sports betting that lists each of the sites and when they’re expected to go live.
