Doug Pederson was really annoyed with reporters yesterday, so let’s see if the group pissed off Mike Groh and Jim Schwartz today.

Notes from Groh’s press conference:

  • Carson Wentz and Nick Foles are still splitting first-team reps. As to whether one guy gets all of the snaps after the final preseason game, Doug Pederson will “make that determination next week”
  • Corey Clement and Nelson Agholor are both practicing
  • DeAndre Carter has “put himself in a position to be really competitive for a roster spot”
  • hope to get Donnel Pumphrey some reps on Thursday night, will be a game time decision depending on how the hamstring responds
  • Markus Wheaton was out at practice “running around” and is “one of those guys that are starting to feel better”
  • Shelton Gibson has put a ton of time into improving himself and becoming a better player

And Jim Schwartz:

  • on the slot corner competition: “We’re not ready to announce anything yet. But just as far as roster in general and roles guys are going to play, I don’t know exactly what number it is, but I’d probably say we’re probably about 85 percent pretty firm on the way we’ll go into it a week from Thursday night.”
  • confident in a number of players to cover at the weakside linebacker position
  • on the decision to release linebacker Corey Nelson: “That’s probably more of a question for Howie and Doug. He was a good, hard-working guy; he’s a veteran guy; he was well liked on the team. It’s a very difficult time of year. There’s all kinds of different reasons that guys make teams or don’t make teams, get released and don’t. I think that’s not the last you’ll see of Corey. He’ll find a landing spot in the NFL. We wish him the very best.”
  • Brandon Graham was “like a caged up lion” and had a ton of energy on the practice field, no word on how much playing time he’ll get in week one
  • they’ve been working on Atlanta-related week one schemes for the majority of the summer
  • Bruce Hector impressed initially and has remained consistent with no drop-off in performance
  • not putting a ton of stock in the Falcons’ preseason, “but it’s certainly useful information. We don’t discard it.”
  • cut down day is “without a doubt the worst day of this job” – “To see guys that work as hard as everybody else, that literally don’t get on that bus. You certainly feel for those guys, but at the same time you’re also appreciative for what they’ve done and know that they’ve played some role in the team.”
