The first preseason game actually takes place seven days from now. Wild, yeah?

I know some of y’all are clamoring for football, and I am, too, but that also means colder weather and less sunlight and boring water cooler fantasy talk, which are three things I don’t think anybody is really interested in. I’m still trying to get a few days in at Sea Isle City’s hottest bars and clubs.

Anyway, here are some Thursday notes from the assembled media at the NovaCare complex:

Also, bit of a dust up apparently:

Today offensive coordinator Mike Groh met with the media:

  • on finding time for the running backs, specifically on third down: “Duce did a great job” managing the group last year, you’ll see us be versatile and use everybody’s skills this year
  • mixing and matching groupings right now, not much of a depth chart, similar to how the defense is operating
  • on Donnel Pumphrey: doing a great job of putting himself in a position to compete for a roster spot, all of those guys (RBs) are doing well and will be evaluated throughout the preseason
  • Jason Peters is doing “everything we’re asking him to do,” not really worried about his level of participation in training
  • Darren Sproles looks “equally quick” as he did last year
  • Nate Sudfeld has “done a nice job” in camp, extremely bright and showed up big time when called upon last year
  • no issues with dividing the reps up, installing the offense with Carson Wentz coming back from injury, would “probably be doing the same thing anyway” if Wentz was healthy (mixing and matching groups, reps, etc)

Time’s yours.
