When the Flyers signed JVR back in July to a 5 year/$35 million deal, our Flyers beat writer Anthony SanFilippo and I were somewhat dumbfounded. Sure, JVR filled a need as a goal-scoring wing, but the length of the contract and the average annual value seemed to fly in the face of what Flyers GM Ron Hextall told us in our exclusive interview on Snow the Goalie. Well, after our last episode in which Anthony called out a former Flyers reporter and Insider for CSN Philly, a source from within the Flyers organization came forward with a bombshell: JVR wasn’t the Flyers #1 target. In fact, they made an offer to their top target and were stunned when he spurned them to sign elsewhere. The source also gave us some insight into how the organization currently views some of their top prospects from the past two drafts. For more, check out our newest episode of Snow the Goalie, “JVR was Plan B“.
