It took a few days, but overall a very good trade deadline haul for the Phillies. Even if it didn’t involve Bryce Harper, we can imagine what if.

But the Phils did get an All-Star bat in catcher Wilson Ramos. The best part: Not much (a player to be named later, or cash) will probably go back to Tampa. However, he’s still on the DL and we’ll probably see him for the first time in the middle of August.

So with Ramos and Asdrubal Cabrera, the team got the bats they needed. But Matt Klentak still wanted to add another reliever. He preferably wanted a left-handed pitcher, and he got that in Toronto’s Aaron Loup.

Now to the game.

After wasting a strong performance by Aaron Nola on Monday, the Phillies snapped their four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox. Jake Arrieta had one of his best starts in a while, going seven strong innings and giving up a run on six hits and seven strikeouts. Roman Quinn started in center field over Odubel Herrera and went 3-for-5 with three hits. Manager Gabe Kapler said benching Herrera wasn’t because of his gaffes from Monday.

Despite the losing streak, the Phillies will enter August still atop the NL East, even with the Nationals still in striking distance.

The Phillies are off today but start a four-game series with the Miami Marlins tomorrow night. Nick Pivetta will take the mound. Speaking of August baseball, the team is running a BOGO offer for games in that month. It’s definitely worth it.

The Crossed Up gang talks about the trade deadline moves and much more in their latest episode.

In other news, a fan says Gabe Kapler had him ejected after he told Herrera to wake up after his base-running blunder.

“I was in my seat when I saw a security guy come up from the field with an earpiece, he put his fingers up to the earpiece like someone was talking to him, and I saw him go through the swing gate and walking up the steps,” recalled Rohlfing, a 1989 Archbishop Wood graduate who first told his story to Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team on SportsRadio 94 WIP Tuesday morning. “I said to my fiancé, ‘Please tell me he’s not coming to see me.’

“The security guy came up from the dugout. [The security guy] was told by someone in the [Phillies’] dugout we can’t have that.”

According to Rohlfing, the Fenway Park security person tapped him on the shoulder and motioned with his index finger to follow him to the main concourse, where he told Rohlfing he had to leave the ballpark and was asked if he was with anyone else.

“I thought the security guy was just going to tell me to not to do it again, or don’t go down the steps yelling at the players.”

The Roundup:

The Eagles returned to training camp yesterday with pads and LIVE. TACKLING. Football is back! Carson Wentz did not participate in any 11v11 drills for the second consecutive day of practice. Donnel Pumphrey is also improving, and it also helps with Wendell Smallwood going in the other direction. Defensively, you can’t tell if Jordan Hicks got hurt last year. He looks like he’s back to normal.

Speaking of standout players, Sidney Jones has been one of them thus far. He took first team reps at nickel corner once again, and he could be an X factor on the 2018 Birds.

Super Bowl–winning teams always face the specter of a subsequent free-agent talent-drain, and the Eagles were not immune to that this offseason. The departure of veteran slot cornerback Patrick Robinson threatens to erode the defending champs’ efficiency and depth on the back end of their defense—but that problem could be mitigated (or eliminated altogether) with a breakout campaign from second-year corner Sidney Jones, a former second-rounder. Jones missed most of his rookie year with a torn Achilles tendon, but the former Husky’s been lighting it up at Philly’s training camp from both the outside and the slot. If he can emerge in 2018 as a playmaking cover corner, it’d be tough to see the Eagles skipping a beat on that side of the ball.

Sticking to the defense, should the Birds add another veteran safety (AKA Corey Graham)?

Offensive lineman and seventh round pick Jordan Mailata can sing and play the guitar. He also played the piano.
