Straight from the Eagles’ press release:

Practice report

Did not participate: RB Jay Ajayi (back), DE Michael Bennett (illness), S Rodney McLeod (knee), RB Darren Sproles (hamstring)

Full participation: WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder)

Nice.

Alshon’s going to play on Sunday.

Doug Pederson said just a few hours ago that he did not yet know if Jeffery would be available in Nashville despite being cleared for full contact in practice. This pretty much answers that question, and Carson Wentz will now have his top three weapons to throw to in Zach Ertz, Nelson Agholor, and Alshon.

It also got me to thinking; why is it that people can’t get his name correct? I feel like every other Eagle fan continues to say Alshon “Jefferies” for some reason.

Historically, I think Philadelphia has had a lot of trouble with athlete names that end in the letter “S.” And if they don’t end in an “S,” but we think they should, we just add the “S” anyway. Asante Samuel comes to mind. Everybody always said Asante “Samuels” for whatever reason.

I knew there were more out there, so I queried Twitter:

Responses:

  • Chase “Daniels”
  • Roy “Holiday”
  • Dario Saric (nobody does the ‘sh’ sound)
  • Cole “Hamel”
  • Joel “Imbeed”
  • Nelson “Aguilar”
  • Nnamdi Asomugha (no one could spell or say his name)
  • Samuel Dalem-bert
  • Eric Lin-drose
  • pronouncing any “que” sound with a hard “W”, i.e. Vince Velas-kwez
  • Tuh-rell Owens
  • Corey Cluh-ment
  • Ky Detmer and Koy Detmer, bad spellings and confusion all around
  • “Hershey” Hawkins
  • Halapoulivaati Vaitai
  • Freddy “Gal-veese”
  • Aaron “Rowan”
  • basically any foreign Flyer or Union player
  • Jeffrey “Laurie”
  • Kevin “Colb”

Correct.

We pronounce “athlete” the same way we pronounce ACME, which is Ack-a-me.

But anyway, Alshon looks good for week four.
