Doug Pederson confirmed Friday that Rodney McLeod had surgery.

But –

He wouldn’t go any further than that during his final press conference before Sunday’s road game vs. Tennessee.

NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Derrick Gunn reported Thursday that McLeod was out for the year with a torn MCL suffered in the Indianapolis win, news that has yet to be confirmed or corroborated by the Eagles. Either way, McLeod is on the shelf and the Birds won’t have his services for some time.

As far as Alshon Jeffery, Pederson admitted that the Birds’ top wide receiver is “not really” feeling better as he deals with a virus that’s “going around.”

Pederson:

“Speaking to our doctors this morning, it’s about a 24-48 hour deal, so we’re hoping it runs its course here pretty soon.”

Doug says he saw enough from Jeffery earlier this week to make a determination as to whether he’ll play.

Other notes after the jump:

  • Doug didn’t want to get into the backup safety plan. “We’ve got options there, moving some guys around.”
  • Darren Sproles is “not there yet” but is “getting close” with his hamstring injury
  • Jay Ajayi is good to go for Sunday. Pederson says he had the same injury (back fracture) and you have to tolerate the pain as you battle through it. “It might sound bad, but he’s a tough kid and he doesn’t want to miss another one.”
  • Nelson Agholor has stepped up and taken on the load for a banged-up receiving corps
  • Pederson says they’re “looking” for safety help, but reiterated that he’s comfortable with what he has on the roster.
  • tight end group is smart and athletic and allows for different things when using 13 personnel
  • RE: virus measures – gotta make sure team is washing hands and covering mouth when they sneeze, sometimes quarantine a guy and send him home with medication
  • upper 60s for completion percentage is a reasonable goal for Carson Wentz, who told media he wants to improve in that area this season
  • Team needs to manage distractions to improve road play. Playing at home is home, provides more structure and is easier to navigate.
