The boldness continues for the Phillies.

If you thought this recent collapse has been something, last night’s loss to the Rockies was something new. The Phils lost 14-0 and the offense only got four hits. Alright, that’s low already.

But Rockies starter German Marquez struck out the first eight batters, somehow let Nick Pivetta end that streak with an infield single, and then struck out another batter to end the third. He finished with 11 K’s. Wow. To quote manager Gabe Kapler, that was definitely a “shitty” performance.

GM Matt Klentak said that Kapler would return for next season. That honestly isn’t a surprise, and neither is his statement about needing “significant changes.” But if the team doesn’t improve from this year, there’s going to be a lot more questions surrounding the group.

The series concludes this afternoon at 3:10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Jake Arrieta will take the mound in this one. Let’s just get this done and move on please.

The Roundup:

The Eagles took the practice field once again as they get set to play the Titans Sunday. And so did Alshon Jeffery, this time as a full participant. Doug Pederson mentioned he was unsure if Alshon would play at his press conference before the injury report listed him as healthy.

Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles did not practice but are expected to return later in the week. Rodney McLeod also missed practice due to his injury, but we don’t know much about his situation. Michael Bennett missed practice as well due to an illness.

Could Le’Veon Bell be an Eagle? According to one CBS NFL reporter, the Birds are a sleeper team.

What a week it’s been for the Flyers. The Gritty love continues as he now has a beer named after him. But things turned for the worse with a Finnish report listing Jori Lehtera as a suspect in a Finnish cocaine ring. This makes sense now:

Anyway, Nolan Patrick had a great second half in his rookie season. He gained more confidence as the season went on:

“I gained more confidence as the year went on [during the 2017-18 season], and I got more opportunity and just ran with it and kept building my game throughout the second half of the year,” Patrick said. “I feel good, definitely better than I did this time last year. I know everyone in the outside world looks at points and stuff like that, but for me, it’s about being a good two-way guy.

“Obviously, I want to contribute as much as I can offensively. But growing up, I’ve always focused on being a two-way player. I got stronger over the summer and a little bigger. I’m playing around 205 [pounds] right now, and I feel good at this weight. Last year, I was playing around 198, 197. Coming back my second year [in the NHL], you know what the organization is about and I try to come in with the same mindset that I’m trying to make the team so I don’t sit back and relax at all. It’s a good mindset to have.”

Anthony and Russ got a chance to sit down with forward Jordan Weal on the latest Snow the Goalie. Weal might play tonight as the Flyers take on the Rangers at 7 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia +.
