Jalen Mills’ up and down play has become fodder for every dinner table in the Delaware Valley. You’ve probably had the conversation. The one that goes something like this:

Dad: “Jalen Mills is an absolute disgrace! How do you give up a 70 yard bomb like that?!”

You: “Dad, there should’ve been safety help over the top, plus…”

Brother: “BUT HE HAS GREEN HAIR AND THE EAGLES WON THE SUPER BOWL!”

You: “Both of those things are true, but…”

Dad: “I don’t care what color his hair is! He can’t play football!”

Friend: “In fairness, he’s outplayed what a seventh round draft pick is normally expected to…”

Dad: “THEY’RE THE SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!”

You: “Is anyone concerned with the scheme? Why is Mills being run out in man-to-man with no safety help? Maybe Jim Schwartz should adjust the scheme to fit the players he has if he isn’t willing to make a personnel change.”

Welcome to the Crossing Broad Slack chat. Thankfully, our game-day echo chamber appears to have validity as Chris Simms mentioned on the Simms & Lefkoe Podcast. Our old friend Adam seemed impressed.

Like I’ve said on Crossing Broadcast, it’s fair to say that Mills has outperformed his draft pick expectations. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the best option as an outside corner opposite Ronald Darby, who by the way, has had his fair share of struggles this season. What say you, readers? Does the responsibility lie with a seventh round draft pick or his defensive coordinator?
