This got lost in the RADIO WARS shuffle, but with the dawn of a new Flyers season upon us, I wanted to drop it in here this morning.

The team apparently signed an extension to remain with Beasley Media Group as their broadcast partner. That means 97.5 the Fanatic will remain the Flyers’ flagship station and 93.3 WMMR will continue to be involved as well.

The interesting part of the press release is the news that 97.5 will be doing some original Flyers programming this year:

Since 2012, 97.5 The Fanatic and 93.3 WMMR have broadcast all Flyers preseason, regular season and Stanley Cup Playoff games, and that will continue into next season and beyond. In addition, new original Flyers programming will be introduced on a weekly basis on 97.5 The Fanatic during the 2018-19 season. The first “Fanatic Flyers Weekly” hosted by Jason Myrtetus and Chris Therien will air this Thursday from 6-7 p.m.

Therien was recently part of the Flyers television broadcasts on NBC Sports Philadelphia but was let go as part of an offseason reshuffle. Myrtetus you know as the station’s midday host, who will be anchoring alongside Anthony Gargano moving forward. I’m told that ice hockey superfan Mike Missanelli will not be appearing on “Fanatic Flyers Weekly.”

Said Therien in September (via Rob Tornoe at Philly.com) –

“I will not be back between the benches this year. That was a decision I found out about last week,” Therien announced in a video posted to Facebook and Instagram that has since been deleted. “I’m disappointed about the upcoming season not going the way I thought it was going to go.”

Jim Jackson, Bill Clement, and Keith Jones will return to call games this season. Tim Saunders and Steve Coates I believe continue as the radio team but I cannot, for the life of me, find any news or press release announcing Therien’s television replacement.

Did they even replace him at all?

Not sure, but anyway, Flyers win 7-0 tonight.
