Hartsy is calling it a career at age 36 after 17 NHL seasons.

He announced the news on his Twitter account this morning:

Hartnell played 1,249 NHL games, if you can believe it. He spent seven years in Philadelphia, where he averaged 25 goals and 28 assists during the six healthy seasons he played. The 2011-2012 season saw him post career highs with 37 goals and 67 points, as the Flyers went on to a second-round playoff defeat after knocking off the Penguins in the opening round.

He was a member of the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup finals team and finished sixth on that squad with 44 regular season points and sixth with 17 playoff points.

I had the pleasure of meeting Hartnell at CBS 3 back in the day and he was a very friendly guy, a very down-to-Earth type of dude who always seemed to get on well with the fans. He was steady and efficient for the Flyers and scored a bucket load of goals off of rebounds and deflections while doing the requisite gritty work around the crease. Hartnell was front and center in many of those memorable Flyers/Penguins games of the last decade, which is, of course, why I went with the Hulk Hogan impersonator cover image.

Grats to Scott Hartnell on a heck of a career:
