Sports betting is coming to Pennsylvania, and there’s nothing remotely subtle about its impending arrival. There’s no doubt the impressive array of betting apps offering aggressive bonuses and enticing deals will very much drive PA sports betting, but the full wagering experience offered by brick and mortar casinos will most certainly be very much be part of the equation as well. To that end, Parx Casino in Bensalem is going all in, announcing Friday afternoon its plans to build a $10 million sportsbook.

So what can visitors expect? From the company’s press release:

The temporary sportsbook will be open seven days a week from 11:00am to 2:00am. The space will feature 28 HD televisions screens of various sizes, plus two sixteen by nine foot screens that can be split into four. In total, the temporary sportsbook can broadcast up to 36 games at the same time. The temporary sports book will also feature seven live teller windows, a full service bar, and comfortable seating to watch the games. Forty-five self-service sports betting kiosks will be available in the temporary sportsbook as well as throughout the casino floor and the Parx Poker Room.

When opened, customers can expect their favorite ways to bet on sports at Parx, including: spread, moneyline, total, props, parlays and teasers. Sports that will be available will include, among others, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, College Football, College Basketball and more. Parx will also launch an online sports betting app complete with live in-game betting in 2019 (pending PGCB approval).

Think Vegas, but in Bensalem. Or something.

Of course, the pure convenience of betting apps will ultimately be most appealing to users, but spending a college football Saturday, NFL Sunday, or weekend in late March in front of 28 televisions and multiple projection screens with a full service bar isn’t exactly a tough sell.

The project isn’t expected to be completed this month, but the casino is still expects to take sports wagers on-site before then.

The Bensalem expansion plans aren’t only part of the plans for Parx, which will also bring on-site wagering to its Parx Turf Clubs in South Philly and Valley Forge once the Bensalem project wraps.

If you go, maybe I’ll see you there. I’ll be the slightly weathered 33-year-old man likely wearing a flannel shirt who’s yelling obscenities at multiple screens.

Gotta diversify the portfolio. That’s just smart investing.
