More push back to the Philly Voice story describing Carson Wentz as “selfish” via anonymous sources.

Five Eagles and one former Bird took to social media to share their disagreement.

Fletcher Cox was was the first to dispute Joe Santoliquito’s article, with Brandon Brooks piggybacking on his response:

Lane Johnson also poo-poo’d the story:

Ex-Eagle Torrey Smith also got in on the action, after the jump:

Smith’s perspective is interesting since he was on the field when Wentz was playing at an MVP level during the first chunk of the 2017 season. He didn’t get a ton of targets as a WR3, just 58 total in the 13 games Carson played. That’s about four per game.

And here’s backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld throwing in his support:

I also missed this earlier, but Zach Ertz, who was mentioned specifically in the story (in a couple of paragraphs regarding targets), also chimed in:

Even the responses from fans and other media are fairly scathing. I think Howard makes a good point here:

It’s true that Joe is not an Eagles beat guy. He’s not at down at NovaCare in the same capacity as a guy like Dave Zangaro or Mike Kaye or Martin Frank. So it is kind of interesting to see sources cited from a person who is really more of a do-it-all kind of freelancer who writes about boxing and other sports in addition to football.

There is, of course, speculation on who these anonymous sources are, and I think you’d probably have to start by asking yourself who benefits the most from an article like this getting out there. Is it a disgruntled wide receiver who wants more targets? Is it an offensive lineman who preferred the way Nick Foles went through his progressions? Is it Mike Groh or a position coach trying to send a message via the media?

I have no idea, and of course no player is gonna go on Twitter and say, “you know what, this article is spot on, Carson is an asshole.” Philly Voice certainly knew that they’d get a ton of push back when they hit the publish button.

From a neutral perspective, the rush to counter this article is certainly fascinating.
