The Flyers:

This team is awful. They fell to the Hurricanes 5-3 after an awful start but a pretty respectable comeback.

After a boring first period, Carolina made things interesting. They scored the first four goals in the game and three of them came in the first period. Then the Flyers went on another power play. They were 9-for-94 on the extra man advantage which is unbelievably bad. And Wayne Simmonds put home a goal on the PP, followed by Couturier, and then James van Riemsdyk on another PP to cut the Hurricane lead to one.

But, you see, if you really know the Flyers, they’ll find a way to NOT win. And they did. Teuvo Teravainen scored with less than five minutes left to extend the lead to two and hold on for the win.

It’s not the best time to be a Flyers fan, even if faces have changed since the start of the season. Could a complete rebuild start soon? Maybe, maybe not. But it might be the best thing to do rather than staying in the middle every year.

Nolan Patrick might come back next week, which is one of two pieces of good news that’ll regard the Flyers. The other is that you can listen to a new episode of Snow the Goalie.

Up next for the Flyers is an afternoon matinee with the Flames on Saturday.

The Roundup:

Welcome to the Eagles portion of the roundup. Another day, another injury report:

The Phillies landed a free agent. It’s not Bryce Harper or Manny Machado. It’s David Robertson, which is still pretty good. He’s here for at least two years for at least $23 million (there’s a club option for 2021). Movement, finally.

The Sixers return from their west coast swing to host Dallas tomorrow night at 7:30. TJ McConnell said the bench needs to improve (and he’s right):

“It starts with me,” McConnell said. “I just have to be better, man.”

His two turnovers came from being careless with the ball. And later in the game, his lack of awareness led to a shot-clock violation.

“I get a shot-clock violation as a point guard in the NBA,” he said. “You just got to know how much time is the clock. It’s just stupid stuff like that.

“The bench has to be better. It starts with the point guard that’s out there.”
